Equivalent stress approach in modelling unsaturated soils

International Journal for Numerical and Analytical Methods in Geomechanics, 2011
SUMMARYThis article presents an equivalent stress approach that can be used in many elastoplastic constitutive models for unsaturated soils. The use of the equivalent stress leads to a modified yield locus that is independent of the suction. In addition, the equivalent stress becomes the major stress variable, with suction required only as an ...

Criteria of Equivalent Stress Concept

2018
At present, there exist more than 200 different criteria (Lebedev Development of the theories of strength in the mechanics of materials. The Multiaxial Equivalent of Stressed Volume

1994
A comprehensive probabilistic fracture analysis methodology should allow data to be combined or pooled from multiple specimen sizes and geometries such that all available fracture data can be integrated into strength/probability estimates and such that size-scaling aspects of the model can be tested.

Huber-Mises-Hencky Equivalent Stress: A Surface Failure Indicator

World Tribology Congress III, Volume 1, 2005
The microslip phenomenon takes place in both rolling and sliding contacts. In the latter case it occurs in fretting, when the main cause of failure is surface degradation. Both cases are experimentally investigated in order to visualise microslip initiation.

Electrical equivalent method for thermal stress analysis

Proceedings., 39th Electronic Components Conference, 2003
A method that can help to improve understanding of thermal-stress problems and is useful for the first-order analysis of thermal stresses in the layered structures of laminates is introduced. The technique models the thermal expansion and the elasticity of each layer as components in a three-terminal equivalent electrical circuit.

Stress-Strain Input for Equivalent-Linear Analyses

Journal of the Geotechnical Engineering Division, 1979
The purpose of this technical note is to investigate the sensitivity of computation of the equivalent-linear analysis to the choice of the stress-strain input and to demonstrate the need for care in selecting the correct set of properties. The computer program used in this study is SHAKE and the stress-strain relations considered are the S&I and the H&

INVESTIGATION OF EQUIVALENT STEP-STRESS TESTING PLANS

2009
AbstractAccelerated life testing (ALT) is a method for obtaining failure time data of test units quickly under more severe conditions than the normal operating conditions. Typical ALT plans require the determination of stress types, stress levels, allocation of test units to those stress levels, duration of the test and other test parameters ...

Equivalent Stress Cycles Based on District Heating Operation

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2015
We investigated supply water temperature of the district boiler between 2006 and 2014.And calculated the design life cycles of heating pipeline based on the district boiler as the heat source. Then superposed the number of the design life cycles caused by pipelines accidents and district boiler of the main trunk lines, distribution lines and subscriber

Equivalent Stress Intensity Factor of Pre-Northridge Connections

Key Engineering Materials, 2008
The objective was to quantify the variation of stress intensity factor to weld root flaw sizes in steel frame connections. Finite-element analyses were used to study fracture toughness in welded beam-column connections. Investigations of fracture behavior mainly focused on the standard pre-Northridge connection geometry.

Equivalent Effective Stress in Unsaturated Fine Sand

GeoFlorida 2010, 2010
Laboratory tests on unsaturated fine sand show that the equivalent effective stress (EES) in the sand is function of the water content. The EES is determined through direct tensile tests. Three intervals were identified for which the EES varies in different way.
