Global assessment of subnational drought impact based on the Geocoded Disasters dataset and land reanalysis [PDF]
Despite the importance of a link between hydrometeorological drought hazards and their socioeconomic impact, the link at a subnational level has yet to be evaluated due to the lack of precise subnational information on disaster locations. Using the newly

Demystifying the use of ERA5‐land and machine learning for wind power forecasting
Wind is a highly unstable renewable energy source. Accurate forecasting can mitigate the effects of wind inconsistency on the electric grid and help avoid investments in costly energy storage infrastructure. Basing the predictions on open‐source forecast models and climate data also makes them entirely free of charge.

This study presents a comprehensive analysis of heatwaves in mainland Portugal from 1 October 1980 to 30 September 2021 (41 hydrological years). It addresses a research gap by providing an updated assessment using high-resolution reanalysis daily minimum and maximum temperature data (Tmin and Tmax) from the gridded ERA5-Land dataset, overcoming the ...

The Applicability Performance of the ERA5-Land Precipitation Datasets in Southwest China
ERA5L precipitation reanalysis datasets were provided by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts(ECMWF) Fifth Generation Land Surface Reanalysis (ERA5L). An investigation of the applicability of ERA5L precipitation reanalysis datasets produced for Sichuan, Chongqing, Guizhou, Yunnan and Xizang in Southwest China has been conducted ...

Assessment of Agricultural Drought Based on Reanalysis Soil Moisture in Southern China
Accurate assessment of agricultural drought is useful for ecosystem services. This is a successive work of our previous study that assessed agricultural drought using the soil water deficit index (SWDI) based on ERA5-Land in the four southern provinces ...

Beyond meteorological data: Modelling tree growth with ERA5-Land
Forests are increasingly impacted by climate change, affecting tree growth and carbon sequestration. Tree-ring width, closely related to tree growth, is a key climate proxy, yet models describing ring width or growth often lack comprehensive environmental data.
