Metastasis on pause: How dormant tumor cells stay hidden within the tumor microenvironment and evade immune surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...

Harnessing laboratory data for poliovirus eradication: contributions of the Africa regional polio laboratory data management team, 2022 – 2024

open access: yesComputer Methods and Programs in Biomedicine Update
Background and Objectives: Polio laboratory data is crucial in providing timely and accurate information on poliovirus outbreaks and therefore an important component of the overall poliovirus eradication strategies. This paper discusses the contributions

Stimulator of interferon genes agonist augmented antitumor immunity of osimertinib in Egfr‐mutated lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining osimertinib with the STING agonist ADU‐S100 activates innate and adaptive immunity to overcome the non‐inflamed microenvironment of Egfr‐mutant lung cancer. This combination increases NK and CD8+ T‐cell infiltration, associated with activation of the STING‐IRF3 pathway and local immunogenic cell death.

Polio transition in the African Region: progress, challenges and prospects for health systems integration

open access: yesBMC Infectious Diseases
Background The Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) has made substantial progress towards global eradication of polio. As regions, including Africa, approach the final stages of this goal, countries must ensure that essential polio functions are ...

ZW4864‐mediated inhibition of the β‐catenin/BCL9/BCL9L complex reveals therapeutic potential in bladder cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
BCL9 and BCL9L drive bladder cancer progression by enhancing β‐catenin signaling, promoting proliferation, migration, invasion, and organoid growth. Genetic depletion of BCL9(L) suppresses malignant phenotypes, while pharmacological disruption of the β‐catenin/BCL9(L) complex with ZW4864 inhibits canonical Wnt signaling and tumor‐associated cellular ...

Epidemiology and genetic characterization of orphan polioviruses in Africa, 2022–2024: Unmasking silent transmission and implications for eradication

open access: yesVaccine: X
Background: The continued detection of orphan polioviruses, defined by ≥ 1.5 % nucleotide divergence in the VP1-coding region of the virus compared with the VP1 of previous circulating isolates, presents a significant challenge to polio eradication ...

Mutant NPM1 in Acute Myeloid Leukemia Initiation and Maintenance

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
NPM1 mutations drive acute myeloid leukemia by acting as neomorphic transcriptional regulators that cooperate with Menin–MLL and XPO1 to sustain HOX/MEIS1 expression and block differentiation. Targeting these mutant‐specific transcriptional dependencies provides a rational therapeutic strategy for NPM1‐mutated AML.

Visualization of the Evolution and Transmission of Circulating Vaccine-Derived Poliovirus (cVDPV) Outbreaks in the African Region

open access: yesBio-Protocol
Since the creation of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) in 1988, significant progress has been made toward attaining a poliovirus-free world. This has resulted in the eradication of wild poliovirus (WPV) serotypes two (WPV2) and three (WPV3)

Glucose Deprivation‐Driven Concurrent Induction of Apoptosis/Disulfidptosis/Ferroptosis by Tumor Targeting Nanoassemblies in Triple‐Negative Breast Cancer Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Innovative hybrid nanoassemblies installed with ferrocene, D‐α‐tocopherol succinate, and phloretin exploit the metabolic vulnerability of triple‐negative breast cancer under glucose starvation. By blocking glucose uptake, this single nanoplatform simultaneously orchestrates apoptosis, disulfidptosis, and ferroptosis to achieve synergistic and ...
