Cinnamic‐Hydroxamic‐Acid Derivatives Exhibit Antibiotic, Anti‐Biofilm, and Supercoiling Relaxation Properties by Targeting Bacterial Nucleoid‐Associated Protein HU

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Cinnamic‐hydroxamic‐acid derivatives (CHADs) are identified as novel inhibitors of the bacterial nucleoid‐associated protein HU, exhibiting potent antibacterial, anti‐biofilm (both inhibition and eradication), and DNA relaxation (anti‐supercoiling) activities. Moreover, CHADs demonstrate strong synergistic effects with multiple antibiotics.

Optimal Disease Eradication [PDF]

open access: yes
Using a dynamic model of the control of an infectious disease, we derive the conditions under which eradication will be optimal. When eradication is feasible, the optimal program requires either a low vaccination rate or eradication.

Eradication of human papillomavirus and elimination of HPV-related diseases – scientific basis for global public health policies

open access: yesExpert Review of Vaccines, 2019
Introduction: Infections with oncogenic human papillomaviruses (HPV) globally cause about 9% of cancers in females and 1% of cancers in males. HPV disease burden can be effectively controlled by prophylactic HPV-vaccination provided it has high impact ...

CHB‐Induced Immune Zonation Chaos Elicited LXRα‐mediated Lipid Metabolism Disorders in Kupffer Cells to Induce Cancer Stem Cell Formation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
By profiling the spatiotemporal hepatic landscape of CHB mouse models, the originally peri‐portal localized KCs migrated to the peri‐central in a CXCL9‐CXCR3‐dependent manner, facilitating their interaction with HBV+ hepatocytes. The interaction promoted LMD in KCs through ASGR1‐induced LXRα degradation, which, in turn, induced CSC formation via Stat3 ...

Logistical challenges and assumptions for modeling the failure of global cessation of oral poliovirus vaccine (OPV)

open access: yesExpert Review of Vaccines, 2019
Introduction: The inability to successfully stop all use of oral poliovirus vaccine (OPV) as part of the polio endgame and/or the possibilities of reintroduction of live polioviruses after successful OPV cessation may imply the need to restart OPV ...

Bimetallic Peroxide Nanocomposites‐Driven Redox Dyshomeostasis to Activate Sequential Cuproptosis and Pyroptosis for Amplified Tumor Immunotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Hyaluronic acid‐modified bimetallic peroxide nanocomposites (MgO2‐CuO2@HA) are designed for synergistic tumor therapy. The nanocomposites release Mg2+, H2O2, and Cu2+ in tumor cells, induce cuproptosis via Cu+‐mediated protein aggregation, and activate pyroptosis through caspase‐1/gasdermin D pathways for inducing immunogenic cell death, collectively ...

Rapid eradication of vancomycin and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus by MDP1 antimicrobial peptide coated on photocrosslinkable chitosan hydrogel: in vitro antibacterial and in silico molecular docking studies

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology
IntroductionAntibiotic resistance and weak bioavailability of antibiotics in the skin due to systemic administration leads to failure in eradication of vancomycin- and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (VRSA and MRSA)-associated wound ...

METTL5 Enables Immune Evasion of Liver Cancer via Chemokine mRNA Translation Regulation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
METTL5 reshapes the tumor immune microenvironment through ribosome 18S rRNA m6A modification to regulate the translation of chemokine mRNA. Targeting METTL5‐mediated immunosuppression unleashes anti‐tumor immunity and improves the efficacy of anti‐PD‐1 therapy.
