Identification of Potential Vectors and Species Density of Tsetse Fly, Prevalence, and Genetic Diversity of Drug-Resistant Trypanosomes in Kenya

open access: yesPathogens
Tsetse flies are major vectors of trypanosomes in Sub-Saharan Africa, posing risks to livestock and human health. This study investigated the diversity, distribution, and infection rates of tsetse species, as well as the genetic diversity of drug ...

Photothermal‐Activated Antibacterial Amyloid‐Polyphenol‐Iron Hydrogels for Synergistic Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
We report a thermally triggered supramolecular hydrogel (LTFe) formed by Fe3+ and tannic acid on lysozyme amyloid fibrils. Fe3+ enables rapid gelation and photothermal transduction with an efficiency of 88.56%. The LTFe hydrogel exhibits excellent biocompatibility, potent antibacterial activity against E. coli and S.

Developing eradication investment cases for onchocerciasis, lymphatic filariasis, and human African trypanosomiasis : rationale and main challenges [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
An EIC is essentially an economic composite assessment in the broader meaning of economics, addressing thus all three fundamental economics questions. An EIC in fact answers: 1) the ‘‘What’’ question, that compares remaining in control mode versus moving

Bacteria‐Responsive Nanostructured Drug Delivery Systems for Targeted Antimicrobial Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Bacteria‐responsive nanocarriers are designed to release antimicrobials only in the presence of infection‐specific cues. This selective activation ensures drug release precisely at the site of infection, avoiding premature or indiscriminate release, and enhancing efficacy.

Turning Unpredictable Biomolecule Adsorption to Controlled Corona Formation: Focus on Carbon Nanomaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Controlling the protein corona formation onto carbon nanomaterials (CNMs) enhances their functionalities as platforms for cancer theranostics. Here, we reviewed the effects of the intrinsic and acquired properties of CNMs on protein corona formation, the consequent biological and toxicological outcomes, and the strategies to reshape corona formation ...

Soft, Degradable, and Magnetic Microcarriers for Encapsulation and Guided Transport of Drugs and 3D Spheroids

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents soft, degradable hydrogel microcarriers that combine magnetic responsiveness with the ability to host multiple therapeutic and cellular components. Produced by droplet microfluidics, the carriers maintain structural integrity during manipulation, permit controlled breakdown under physiological conditions, and enable guided motion for
