Self‐Seeded Nucleation of PET in a Benign Solvent Yields a High Modulus Aerogel With Ultra‐Low Thermal Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A new benign solvent (1,3‐diphenylacetone) enables a simple, safe, and sustainable dissolution and gelation method to convert waste PET into low density, monolithic aerogels with high mechanical strength (E = 20 MPa) and remarkably low thermal conductivity (k = 21.9 to 28.9 mW/m·K).

RS + LDPC-Staircase Codes for the Erasure Channel: Standards, Usage and Performance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Application-Level Forward Erasure Correction (AL-FEC) codes are a key element of telecommunication systems. They are used to recover from packet losses when retransmission are not feasible and to optimize the large scale distribution of contents. In this

Successive Cancellation Decoding With Future Constraints for Polar Codes Over the Binary Erasure Channel

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2023
In the conventional successive cancellation (SC) decoder for polar codes, all the future bits to be estimated later are treated as random variables. However, polar codes inevitably involve frozen bits, and their concatenated coding schemes also include ...

Limitations for Nonlinear Observation Over Erasure Channel [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, 2013
In this paper, we study the problem of state observation of nonlinear systems over an erasure channel. The notion of mean square exponential stability is used to analyze the stability property of observer error dynamics. The main results of this paper prove, fundamental limitation arises for mean square exponential stabilization of the observer error ...

Soft Hardware, Flowing Software: Reconfigurable Microfluidics for Adaptable Chemical Computation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A reconfigurable microfluidic platform based on soft, photo‐printable, and chemically erasable hydrogel structures printed and erased in situ is used to control flow routing, mixing, chemical patterning, and even chemical computing. Using hardware to control chemical computations decouples logic function from molecular composition, demonstrated via ...

Certifying the classical simulation cost of a quantum channel

open access: yesPhysical Review Research, 2021
A fundamental objective in quantum information science is to determine the cost in classical resources of simulating a particular quantum system. The classical simulation cost is quantified by the signaling dimension which specifies the minimum amount of

Error-resilient performance of Dirac video codec over packet-erasure channel

open access: yes, 2007
Video transmission over the wireless or wired network requires error-resilient mechanism since compressed video bitstreams are sensitive to transmission errors because of the use of predictive coding and variable length coding.
