Erbium - doped fiber laser systems: Routes to chaos [PDF]

open access: yesSerbian Journal of Electrical Engineering, 2014
Erbium-doped fiber laser systems exhibit a large variety of complex dynamical behaviors, bifurcations and attractors. In this paper, the chaotic behavior which can be achieved under certain conditions in a laser system with erbium-doped fiber ...

Ultrahigh‐Order Harmonic Mode‐Locked Optoelectronic Oscillator

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
This article demonstrates a record‐breaking microwave frequency comb generator using an ultrahigh‐harmonic‐order mode‐locked optoelectronic oscillator. By integrating dual recirculating loops into a low‐coherence system, the researchers achieved a harmonic order of 956 with superior noise suppression.

200-fs mode-locked Erbium-doped fiber laser by using mechanically exfoliated MoS2 saturable absorber onto D-shaped optical fiber.

open access: yesOptics Express, 2017
For the first time, we demonstrated the fabrication of mechanically exfoliated molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) samples deposited onto a D-shaped optical fiber. The MoS2 exfoliated flakes were deposited onto a stacked of 1.2 µm PVA (polyvinyl alcohol) and 300

Erbium-Doped Fiber Laser With a Microfiber Coupled to Silica Microsphere

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2012
A compact erbium-doped fiber laser (EDFL) is demonstrated using a piece of 1.5-m-long erbium-doped fiber (EDF) with a microfiber coupled to a silica microsphere at the output end.

Continuous-wave operation of an erbium-doped short-cavity composite fiber laser

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2020
In the paper we investigate the characteristics of a short-cavity fiber laser based on a new silica fiber with a composite erbium-doped phosphosilicate core without additional co-doping with ytterbium.

Broadband Parametric Amplification in AlGaAs‐on‐Insulator Nanowaveguides

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
Harnessing the exceptional nonlinearity of AlGaAs‐on‐insulator nanowaveguides, four‐wave‐mixing parametric amplification achieves a record net on‐chip gain of 56 dB and a gain bandwidth exceeding 415 nm at telecom wavelengths. These results establish AlGaAsOI as a powerful platform for compact, high‐performance integrated nonlinear optical ...

Ultranarrow-Linewidth Brillouin/Erbium Fiber Laser Based on 45-cm Erbium-Doped Fiber

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2015
We demonstrate an ultranarrow-linewidth Brillouin/erbium fiber laser (BEFL), in which 45-cm commercialized erbium-doped fiber (EDF) acts as both the Brillouin and linear gain media. The Brillouin pump threshold of the BEFL is in submilliwatts. Its 980-nm

Optical‐to‐Microcomb Stability Transfer for Ultrastable Timing and Microwave/Millimeter‐Wave Generation

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates a high‐fidelity stability transfer from an optical reference to a high‐repetition‐rate microcomb using a mode‐locked laser bridge. By employing electro‐optic sampling timing detection, femtosecond‐level synchronization and 10−18‐level fractional frequency stability are achieved.

Active mode-locking via pump modulation in a Tm-doped fiber laser

open access: yesAPL Photonics, 2016
We propose and experimentally realize a new class of actively mode-locking technique using pump modulation for rare-earth doped fiber lasers. A Tm-doped fiber laser at 2 μm is mode-locked using the proposed active mode-locking via pump modulation ...

Tapered-EDF-Based Mach–Zehnder Interferometer for Dual-Wavelength Fiber Laser

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2014
An all-fiber comb filter using a tapered-erbium-doped fiber in a Mach-Zehnder interferometer structure is presented. The free spectral range, extinction ratio, bandwidth, and interference pattern of the comb filter can be shaped by controlling the taper ...
