The comparison of for different erbium doped fibers and erbium doped fiber amplifier configurations

2017 4th International Conference on Electrical and Electronic Engineering (ICEEE), 2017
In this study, single-pass (SP), double-pass (DP), and double pass with passive erbium doped fiber (EDF) configurations are designed as erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA). All configurations have been experimentally investigated for four different EDF.

Saturable Absorption in Erbium-doped Fiber and Optical Bistability in Erbium-doped Fiber Ring Laser

2021 Photonics North (PN), 2021
Saturable absorption in erbium-doped fiber is presented through absorption measurements using a tunable laser and variable power. Its consequent optical bistability is also observed in erbium-doped fiber ring laser with long lengths of the fiber. Higher absorption at shorter wavelengths enables a wider bistable range.

Dynamics of an erbium-doped fiber laser

Physical Review A, 1994
The temporal dynamics of an erbium-doped fiber laser shows various interesting modes of behavior. In the stationary regime, a behavior going from a cw working mode to deterministic chaos through different self-pulsed working modes has been observed.

Characterization of Erbium Doped Fiber Ring Laser

2020 28th Signal Processing and Communications Applications Conference (SIU), 2020
In this study, the output power and wavelength tuning performance of ring type erbium doped fiber laser (EDFL) were examined theoretically and experimentally. In order to investigate the effects of parameters such as erbium doped fiber (EDF) length, output coupler ratio, erbium ion density, pump power on the performance of ring-type EDFL, two-level ...

Erbium-doped Fiber Amplifier

Proceedings of Japan International Electronic Manufacturing Technology Symposium, 2005
Erbium-doped fiber amplifiers(EDFAs) are remarkable technology as direct optical amplification devices. It has been recently demonstrated that the EDFA can be practically applicable to optical trunk transmission systems and optical distribution systems.

A global design of an erbium-doped fiber and an erbium-doped fiber amplifier

Optics & Laser Technology, 2004
Abstract A global design of an erbium-doped fiber and an open-loop erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) in a steady-state operation is discussed by applying genetic algorithms. Taking a signal gain and a bandwidth as objective functions, 7 parameters of the EDFA (erbium concentration, core radius, erbium-doped radius, refractive index difference ...

Transmission capacity of erbium-doped fiber amplifiers as a criterion for quality of erbium-doped optical fibers

Optics and Spectroscopy, 2008
A new criterion—transmission capacity in the unsaturated gain regime—is proposed for comparing the quality of glasses for erbium-doped fiber amplifiers, considered as an element of an optical communication system. It is shown that, according to the criterion for the highest transmission capacity, amplifiers based on alumino-phosphate-silicate and zinc ...

Highly Erbium-doped fibers characterization and modeling for Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifiers in WDM regime

Optical Amplifiers and Their Applications, 2005
Simple experiments are used to determine ion-pairs percentage and macroscopic homogeneous upconversion in highly erbium-doped fibers. Using these parameters in a Giles-based model enable to predict Optical-Power-Conversion-Efficiency of WDM-EDFAs with a fair agreement.

Performance analysis of erbium doped fiber amplifiers

2009 IEEE 17th Signal Processing and Communications Applications Conference, 2009
In this study, gain characteristics of erbium doped fiber amplifiers, EDFAs, which are important elements of optical communications over C and L bands, are examined. The factors that effect the gain of an EDFA are given and the differences among some EDFA designs which operate on various wavelengths are determined.

Erbium Doped Holey Fiber Devices

Optical Amplifiers and Their Applications/Integrated Photonics Research, 2004
We fabricated an erbium-doped holey fiber, and demonstrate an all-fiber laser with ultra-low threshold (~0.5mW) and amplifier providing 47 dB of internal gain. Incorporating this amplifier within a ring-laser we demonstrate a tuning range over100nm.
