Abstract ERC-55 is a human Ca2+-binding protein localized to the lumen of the endoplasmic reticulum. The protein sequence comprises six copies of the EF-hand Ca2+-binding motif. It is retained in the endoplasmic reticulum via a carboxyterminal HOEL (His-Asp-Glu-Leu) motif. The mRNA for ERC-55 is ubiquitously expressed in human tissue.
