Electromyographic mapping of the erector spinae muscle with varying load and during sustained contraction

Journal of Electromyography and Kinesiology, 2009
The purpose of the study was to explore changes in the spatial distribution of erector spinae electromyography amplitude during static, sustained contractions and during contractions of increasing load. Surface electromyographic (EMG) signals were detected from nine healthy subjects using a grid of 13 x 5 electrodes placed unilaterally over the lumbar ...

A Cadaveric Study Investigating the Mechanism of Action of Erector Spinae Blockade

Regional anesthesia and pain medicine, 2018
Background and Objectives Erector spinae block is an ultrasound-guided interfascial plane block first described in 2016. The objectives of this cadaveric dye injection and dissection study were to simulate an erector spinae block to determine if dye ...

Erector spinae plane block: a systematic qualitative review.

Minerva Anestesiologica, 2019
INTRODUCTION The erector spinae plane (ESP) block is an interfascial block proposed to provide analgesia for chronic thoracic pain. It consists in an injection of local anesthetic in a plane between the transverse process and the erector spinae muscles ...

Quantification of erector spinae muscle fatigue during prolonged, dynamic lifting tasks

European Journal of Applied Physiology and Occupational Physiology, 1993
A method was developed to quantify erector spinae fatigue resulting from repetitive dynamic lifting in the sagittal plane. This method was tested with the data from eight male subjects lifting inertial loads of 19 kg and 17 kg during sessions of 20 min and 2 h, respectively.

Reflexes evoked in human erector spinae muscles by tapping during voluntary activity

Electroencephalography and Clinical Neurophysiology/Electromyography and Motor Control, 1997
We studied the stretch reflexes, an early R1 and a late R2, by tapping the voluntarily contracted erector spinae muscles and recording from the same spinal level with the subject in the prone position. The onset latencies increased progressively towards the caudal level from 8.8 +/- 0.7 ms at T5-6 to 15.9 +/- 1.1 ms at L4-5 for R1, and from 33.3 +/- 2 ...

"Photopenic" Bone Lesion Secondary to Erector Spinae Muscle Infiltration by Breast Carcinoma

Clinical Nuclear Medicine, 1986
A bone image demonstrating a "photopenic" vertebral lesion was found to be caused by tumor infiltration of adjacent muscle and probable secondary osseous ischemia. Magnetic resonance imaging was valuable in detecting the muscle abnormality.

Reliability difference between spectral and entropic measures of erector spinae muscle fatigability

Journal of Electromyography and Kinesiology, 2010
This study investigated back muscle fatigability of the erector spinae (ES) muscles during submaximal contractions with the use of surface electromyography (sEMG). It was important to confirm the reliability of measurements for characterizing neuromuscular alterations by establishing the difference between the Shannon (information) entropy and the ...
