Microplastic distribution in the surface water and sediment of the Ergene River

Environmental Research, 2023
Rivers are major transport pathways for microplastics to reach the oceans. Although gained much attention over the last few years, there is still a relatively lack of knowledge on microplastics in rivers. This study aims to investigate (i) spatiotemporal distribution of microplastics in an industrially polluted river, (ii) the relationship of ...

Forecasting of volumetric flow rate of Ergene river using machine learning

Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence, 2023
Today, the significance of the estimation of physical parameters has considerably increased; for example, the prediction of water flow rate (WFR) is one of the types that will gain a substantial importance among the others. The predictions of WFR of rivers play a prominent role in the plans and constructions of new water dams, or to operate the ones ...

Sediment quality of Ergene River Basin: bio–ecological risk assessment of toxic metals

Environmental Monitoring and Assessment, 2019
Ergene River Basin is located in the north-west part of Marmara Region of Turkey. There are many industrial enterprises on its basin and as well as the majority of these facilities are located on the upstream of the basin. Therefore, Ergene River is one of the rare river ecosystems that are contaminated almost from the source area. The aim of this ...

Contamination assessment of ecotoxic metals in recent sediments from the Ergene River, Turkey

Environmental Earth Sciences, 2016
The Ergene River is a highly contaminated river that passes through the most heavily industrialized area in Turkey and receives municipal, industrial and agricultural effluents from Edirne, Kırklareli and Tekirdağ cities in the Thrace Basin. In order to investigate the pollution level of selected toxic metals in the river, 20 surface sediment samples ...

Sequestering a River: The Political Ecology of the “Dead” Ergene River and Neoliberal Urbanization in Today’s Turkey

Annals of the American Association of Geographers, 2019
This article explores the neoliberal authoritarian transformation of Turkey’s water sector since 2000 by examining the policies surrounding the Ergene River, a dead river that runs through Turkey’s...

Determination of heavy metals in sediments of the Ergene River by BCR sequential extraction method

Environmental Earth Sciences, 2014
Utilizing the sequential extraction procedure (acid soluble, reducible, oxidizable, and residual) proposed by The European Community Bureau of Reference (BCR), the trace metals present in the sediments of the Ergene River, Turkey, were determined. The sediment samples were collected from 10 sampling sites and analyzed to identify the concentrations of ...

Assessing the return flow in human-induced rivers using data-driven and hydrologic models case study: Ergene River Basin

Stochastic Environmental Research and Risk Assessment, 2023
We propose a method for distinguishing return flow from streamflow time series in rivers located in urban and industrial watersheds. The trend analysis is conducted using the Mann–Kendall method, while streamflow time series are divided into pre- and post-change sets using the Mann–Whitney change point method.

HEAVY METAL ANALYSIS OF THE ERGENE RIVER, TURKEY

2021
The Ergene River Basin, which endows from the Istiranca mountains, is one of the centers of industry in the Marmara region. The industrial busy area provides substantial clues about the anthropogenic effect of contamination. Nearly all industrial, domestic and agricultural wastewater is discharged directly or indirectly to the Ergene River.
