Fluorimetric assay of ergotamine

Analytica Chimica Acta, 1974
Studies on the fluorescence properties of ergotamine in water at various pH values, and in several organic solvents are described. An assay procedure for ergotamine, based on its intense fluorescence in ethanol, is presented. Extraction of ergotamine into benzene from basic aqueous solution is followed by transfer of the extract to ethanol for ...

Ergotamine-induced Colitis

Endoscopy, 1985
We report on a 45-year-old woman with ulcerative colitis of the rectum that arose after the use of up to 6 suppositories of a preparation containing ergotamine daily over a period of 6 years. On the basis of a review of the literature the clinical, endoscopic and histological features of the ergotamine-induced colitis are characterized.

The antiadrenolytic action of ergotamine*

Journal of the American Pharmaceutical Association (Scientific ed.), 1949
The vasomotor reversal of Dale is generally considered to be due to depression of the vasoconstrictor, but not of the vasodilator sympathetic neuro-effectors, leaving epinephrine free to stimulate the vasodilator, but not the vasoconstrictor sympathetc terminations. This phenomenon, called adrenolysis, may be caused by ergotamine, dibenamine, and other

Ergotaminism after a single dose of ergotamine tartrate

The Journal of Emergency Medicine, 1984
A 32-year-old female developed classical signs and symptoms of ergotaminism after taking a single rectal suppository of ergotamine tartrate. Her symptoms gradually resolved with minimal therapy over the next week. Ergotaminism is the most frequent form of ergotism and should be considered in all patients with vascular insufficiency who are taking ...

Ergotamine and dihydroergotamine: A review

Current Pain and Headache Reports, 2003
The ergot alkaloids were the first specific antimigraine therapy available. However, with the advent of the triptans, their use in the treatment of migraine has declined and their role has become less clear. This review discusses the pharmacology, efficacy, and safety of the ergots.

Ergotamin-induzierte Claudicatio intermittens

Vasa, 1999
We report about a female patient with intermittent claudication caused by ergotamine. She used ergotamine as a treatment for migraine headaches for more than 4 years. The claudication began 7 month before admission. Colour Doppler sonography and angiography showed severe stenosis of the left external iliac and superficial femoral artery.

Ergotamine Use in Pregnancy

Australian and New Zealand Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, 1996
EDITORIAL COMMENT: We accepted this short report for publication to warn readers that ergotamine may cause acute fetal hypoxia. Although prescribing information lists pregnancy as a contraindication, there is still a belief that ergotamine can be used in pregnancy. The mechanism of injury of the fetus is not clear‐cut.

The impact of ergotamine-induced headache and ergotamine withdrawal on information processing

Psychopharmacology, 1999
Ergotamine abuse and subsequent ergotamine-induced headache is a common problem in the pharmacological treatment of migraine and other headache types; often, withdrawal therapy is necessary. This study investigated whether ergotamine abuse affects information processing and whether withdrawal therapy can lead to an improvement of information processing.
