The biology of mycorrhiza in the Ericaceae

New Phytologist, 1989
SUMMARY Hymenoscyphus ericae utilizes protein as a sole source of nitrogen through the production of an extracellular proteinase. A sensitive procedure for assay of the enzyme is described and is used to determine the major characteristics of the enzyme. The enzyme has a sharp pH optimum at 2.2 with little activity above pH 5.0.

Mycorrhizas in South American Ericaceae

Mycorrhiza
Mycorrhizal symbioses (mycorrhizas) of Ericaceae, including ericoid mycorrhiza (ErM), have been mainly studied in the Northern Hemisphere, although the highest diversity of ericaceous plants is located in the Southern Hemisphere, where several regions remain largely unexplored.

Phylogenetic relationships of Rhododendroideae (Ericaceae)

American Journal of Botany, 1997
The Rhododendroideae are usually recognized as a subfamily within Ericaceae. This group has been considered primitive (i.e., occupying the ancestral or basal position relative to all other Ericaceae) due to the occurrence of separate petals in several taxa, deciduous corollas, and septicidally dehiscent capsules.
