INDEPENDENT ORIGINATION OF FLORAL ZYGOMORPHY, A PREDICTED ADAPTIVE RESPONSE TO POLLINATORS: DEVELOPMENTAL AND GENETIC MECHANISMS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Observations of floral development indicate that floral organ initiation in pentapetalous flowers more commonly results in a medially positioned abaxial petal (MAB) than in a medially positioned adaxial petal (MAD), where the medial plane is defined by ...

Plant Domestication Affects the Oviposition Behavior and Performance of Ganaspis kimorum, a Parasitoid of Drosophila suzukii

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
In this study, we investigated the effects of blueberry domestication on the oviposition behavior and performance of Ganaspis kimorum, a parasitoid of Drosophila suzukii. Domestication of blueberries reduced the oviposition‐searching behavior of the parasitoid but enhanced parasitoid performance, including offspring performance. Additionally, blueberry

Omics Approaches in Uncovering Molecular Evolution and Physiology of Botanical Carnivory

open access: yesPlants, 2023
Systems biology has been increasingly applied with multiple omics for a holistic comprehension of complex biological systems beyond the reductionist approach that focuses on individual molecules.

Pangenome analysis reveals the genetic mechanism underlying high‐altitude adaptation in Qinghai–Xizang (Tibet) Plateau Rhododendron

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
Pan‐genome analysis reveals that high‐altitude Rhododendron species resist alpine cold stress by rapidly sensing and engaging the chilling response pathway and genes that directly and indirectly protect the plant from UV radiation. Heritable genomic features such as long terminal repeats contribute to the adaptive diversification of Rhododendron ...

The complete chloroplast genome of Pouteria caimito

open access: yesMitochondrial DNA. Part B. Resources, 2019
The first complete chloroplast genome sequences of Pouteria caimito were reported in this study. The cpDNA of P. caimito is 158,937 bp in length, contains a large single-copy region (LSC) of 88,100 bp and a small single-copy region (SSC) of 18,631 bp ...

Delayed Deglaciation by Downwasting of the Northeast Avalon Peninsula, Newfoundland: An Application of the Early Postglacial Pollen Record [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
Basal radiocarbon dates from lake sites indicate that final degiaciation began at most a few centuries before 10 ka BP on the interior plateau and proceeded by down-wasting.

Shrubs and trees as natural insect protection for grazing animals in Switzerland and the alpine region: A systematic review of in vitro, in vivo and clinical trials Sträucher und Bäume als natürlicher Insektenschutz für Weidetiere in der Schweiz und im Alpenraum: Eine systematische Literaturübersicht über in vitro‐, in vivo‐ und klinische Studien

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, Volume 40, Issue 2, Page 221-245, June 2026.
Biting or irritating insects are a threat to the health and welfare of grazing animals. This systematic review reveals that several shrubs and bushes growing in the alpine area have insecticidal, insect‐repellent and/or attractant properties. The alder Alnus glutinosa, juniper Juniperus communis, spruce Picea abies and walnut Juglans regia are ...

Year‐round pollinator visitation of ornamental plants in Mediterranean urban parks

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, Volume 19, Issue 3, Page 702-715, May 2026.
Pollinators visiting ornamental plants in urban parks remained diverse throughout the year. They were represented by wild bees (42%), honeybees (37%), flies (18%), butterflies (2%) and beetles (1%). Both native and non‐native plants attracted pollinators.
