Assessing Altered Coating Adhesion on Plasma‐Deoxidized Surfaces Under Oxygen‐Free Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates the effectiveness of atmospheric pressure plasma pretreatment in modifying silicon and stainless steel surfaces to improve adhesion. Argon‐hydrogen plasma increases surface roughness and improves adhesion strength, whereas pure argon results in smoother surfaces and structural changes.

Soil Erosion: Types and Their Mechanism

open access: yesInternational Journal of Economic Plants, 2015
Soil erosion is a universal phenomenon. Out of the 328.7 m ha of India’s geographical area about 175 m ha (53.3%) is subjected to soil erosion and some kind of land degradation.

Slurry Flow and Erosion Prediction in a Centrifugal Pump after Long-Term Operation

open access: yesEnergies, 2019
After long-term operation, the material loss due to slurry erosion often leads to significant changes in the impeller geometry. This change can, in turn, affect the flow characteristics and the erosion mechanism in a centrifugal pump. To investigate this

An investigation into the role of adhesion in the erosion of ductile metals [PDF]

open access: yes
Existing theories of erosion of ductile metals based on cutting and deformation mechanisms predict no material removal at normal incidence which is contradictory to experience. Thus, other mechanisms may be involved.

Productivity‐Driven Optimization of Laser Powder Bed Fusion Parameters for IN718 Superalloy: Process Control, Microstructure, and Mechanical Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates how optimizing laser power, scanning speed, and hatching distance in laser powder bed fusion can boost the productivity of Inconel 718 manufacturing by up to 29% while maintaining mechanical integrity. The work delivers a validated process window and cost–time analysis, offering industry‐ready guidelines for efficient additive ...

Basic Study on Cavitation Erosion by Liquid-Droplet Impingements on Wind Turbine Blade of Metallic Material

open access: yesEnergies
Rain erosion is a critical issue for the development of wind power generation because it limits the lifetime of wind turbine blades. To clarify the erosion initiation mechanism in wind turbine blades of metallic material, pit formation and erosion ...

Initial stages of cavitation damage and erosion on copper and brass tested in a rotating disk device [PDF]

open access: yes
In view of the differences in flow and experimental conditions, there has been a continuing debate as to whether or not the ultrasonic method of producing cavitation damage is similar to the damage occurring in cavitating flow systems, namely, venturi ...

Vertically inserted geotextile used for strengthening levees against internal erosion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The effectiveness of a vertical inserted geotextile against internal erosion, in particular backward erosion, has been investigated. Some small- and medium-scale tests were performed as well as a field-scale test and compared with test series without any

Corrosion and Process Analysis of a Preoxidized MgO Recyclate‐Based Cermet Anode in Laboratory‐Scale Na‐Cryolite Molten Salt Electrolysis of Aluminum at 1000°C

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
EDX elemental map of the pre‐oxidized MgO–steel cermet anode cross section after electrolysis. The development of inert anodes for aluminum electrolysis remains challenging due to the high corrosivity of cryolite‐based melts at 950°C–1000°C. This study investigates the corrosion and process behavior of a carbon‐free MgO–steel cermet anode derived from ...

Catastrophic ice lake collapse in Aram Chaos, Mars

open access: yes, 2014
Hesperian chaotic terrains have been recognized as the source of outflow channels formed by catastrophic outflows. Four main scenarios have been proposed for the formation of chaotic terrains that involve different amounts of water and single or multiple
