Cavitation erosion mechanisms and quantitative evaluation based on erosion particles
Wear, 2001Abstract Cavitation erosion mechanisms were studied through the observation of removed particles for annealed S15C (equivalent to AISI 1015) steel and heat-treated S55C (AISI 1055) steels. In the initial and the incubation stages, single impact loads removed many small sharply edged particles.

A New Mechanism for Lateral Erosion
IEEE Transactions on Components, Hybrids, and Manufacturing Technology, 1980Although miniature dry reed sealed contacts are in increasing demand in telecommunications, their use is often limited to low current switching. Attempts to use dry reed contacts to switch higher currents lead to resistance failures or failures to release after a relatively small number of operations.

Sliding Erosion Mechanism and Measurement
Tribology Transactions, 1992This paper describes the shortcomings in the determination of wear in equipment where the predominant wear mechanism is that due to sliding erosion with a very low angle of impact. A description is given of the design and operation of the novel erosion tester which overcomes the limitations of existing testers.

Identifying Erosion Mechanism: A Novel Approach
Tribology Letters, 2013Understanding the erosion mechanism is a key to improve the performance of material subjected to erosive condition. Capability to predict the erosion mechanism could prove to be useful tool. In this work, a parameter named “erosion mechanism identifier,” ξ, is proposed to predict the erosion mechanism in materials.

The Mechanism of Cavitation Erosion
Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1942Abstract After pointing out the interrelation between corrosion resistance, caustic embrittlement, fatigue, creep, and other phenomena of metals, the author cites the results of experiments on glass and quartz rods, subjected to high liquid pressures, as indicative of the action which probably occurs in cavitation erosion. To demonstrate

Hydrodynamic mechanisms controlling cavitation erosion
International Shipbuilding ProgressIn this paper we consider development of cavitation erosion having its origin in sheet cavitation. The discussion includes generation of cloud cavitation from sheet cavitation and how a cloud collapse can be enhanced by energy cascading from the collapse of a glassy sheet cavity into the collapse of a cloud.

Mechanisms of soil erosion/degradation
2018Soil degradation threatens soil health in terms of soils functioning as complex living biological systems, delivering multiple ecosystem goods and services. For example, soil erosion removes the most fertile topsoil, reducing soil depth and soil health, which leads to poor crop growth. This impacts on the economic sustainability of farmers’ livelihoods.

What factors control mechanical erosion rates?
International Journal of Earth Sciences, 2000Mechanical erosion rates are important factors in understanding how continents evolve. Mechanical erosion is much faster than chemical erosion, especially for highly elevated regions of the Earth's surface. It is a principal way in which mountain ranges are removed, exposing deep metamorphic roots, which comprise much of the older portions of the ...
