Thermodynamic Pathways of Nonequilibrium Solidification in Wire‐Arc Additive Manufacturing Fe‐Based Multicomponent Alloy Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Geometry‐driven thermal behavior in wire‐arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) influences microstructural evolution during nonequilibrium solidification of a chemically complex Fe–Cr–Nb–W–Mo–C nanocomposite system. By comparing different deposits configurations, distinct entropy–cooling rate correlations, segregation, and carbide evolution are revealed ...

Modeling the fluid/soil interface erosion in the Hole Erosion Test

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2012
Soil erosion is a complex phenomenon which yields at its final stage to insidious fluid leakages under the hydraulic infrastructures known as piping and which are the main cause of their rupture.

Distribution and simulation of saturated soil hydraulic conductivity at a slope of northern Loess Plateau

open access: yesShui kexue jinzhan, 2014
To provide a theoretical basis for simulating soil hydraulic processes, classical statistics and geo-statistics were used to characterize the spatial distribution of saturated soil hydraulic conductivity (Ks) at a slope scale in the northern Loess Plateau.

Is an Apple an Orange? A Large Language Model Benchmark for Candidate Term Extraction and Subclass Decisions Against Upper Ontologies in Engineering and Materials Science

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Building machine‐readable vocabularies for materials science is slow, expert‐driven work. This study benchmarks 13 large language models on two of its first steps: finding candidate terms in engineering articles and deciding where they belong in a class hierarchy.

Morphological Evolution of Impact Craters and Associated Gravity Anomalies: New Perspectives From Numerical Modeling

open access: yesEarth and Space Science
Hyper‐velocity impacts on planetary surfaces lead to impact craters whose morphology evolves due to exogenous factors such as atmospheric processes, as well as endogenous factors including tectonic and metamorphism.

Erosion-corrosion resistance of engineering materials in various test conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Erosion–corrosion is a complex phenomenon which involves the interaction between the mechanical processes of solid particle erosion and the electrochemical processes of corrosion.

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

Electrochemical Behavior of Flame‐Sprayed Sc‐Doped AlCoCrFeMo High‐Entropy Alloy Coatings in 3.5% Sodium Chloride Solution

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Scandium (Sc)‐doped AlCoCrFeMo HEA coatings are fabricated via flame spraying with 0.1, 0.3, and 0.5 wt% Sc additions. Among these, the HEA‐Sc0.3 coating exhibits the highest corrosion resistance, indicated by a more positive corrosion potential and lower current density.

Muddying the Picture? Forecasting Particulate Sources and Dispersal Patterns in Managed Catchments

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2019
Satellite imagery and climate change projections improve our ability to map and forecast sediment sources and transport pathways at high resolution, which is vital for catchment management.

Modeling and Practice of Erosion and Sediment Transport under Change

open access: yes, 2019
Climate and anthropogenic changes impact on the erosion and sediment transport processes in rivers. Rainfall variability and, in many places, the increase of rainfall intensity have a direct impact on rainfall erosivity.
