Effects of sediment bulk properties on erosion rates

The Science of The Total Environment, 2001
Considerable work has been done recently on the effects of sediment bulk properties on erosion rates. From this it is known that erosion rates depend on at least the following parameters: bulk density, average particle size, particle size distribution, mineralogy, organic content, volume of gas in the sediment, salinity of the pore waters, and time ...

Present Rate of Land Erosion

Nature, 1969
A fresh look at available estimates of the rates of erosion suggests that landforms have taken longer to evolve than has been thought.

Rates of erosion and their implications for exhumation

Mineralogical Magazine, 2002
AbstractAt time-scales of 102to 105years, erosion by rivers, landslides and glaciers can exceed 5 mm/y. Sustained denudation at these rates is sufficient to account for many of the rapid rates of unloading or cooling that are revealed by geobarometric or thermochronologic studies.

Erosion Mechanics and Erosion Rate Prediction in Hydrate-Sand Slurry

SPE Journal
Summary The complexity of pipeline systems and variable flow patterns in multiphase flow with hydrate particles (HPs) makes it challenging to understand and to mitigate erosion. Considering a sand-water flow erosion test in an elbow, a set of ice-sand-water erosion tests were conducted in a spinning slurry. The mass loss rate (LR) and

Rates of erosion of till in the nearshore zone

Earth Surface Processes and Landforms, 1986
AbstractMeasurements of vertical erosion of till in water depths ranging from 1.1 m to 5 m have been obtained using a modified micro‐erosion meter. Measurements in this environment are hindered by poor underwater visibility and losses due to high erosion rates and ice action.

Interpretation of erosion rates on rock surfaces

Area, 2007
Simple linear regression is used to interpret erosion rates on two shore platforms from the Kaikoura Peninsula, South Island, New Zealand. Using this analysis it is suggested that measured rates could be viewed as representatives of populations of erosion rates moving about a changing fitness landscape.
