Modelling erosive wear

Corrosion Science, 1993
Abstract Many models are now available which may form the basis of a predictive tool to describe ductile, brittle and scale modified erosion processes. From a review of these models, it is clear that a unified approach is required, incorporating aspects of many of these models, if erosive wear both at room temperature and elevated temperature is to ...

Corneal erosions in contact lens wear

Contact Lens and Anterior Eye, 2012
Contact lens wear continues to be the highest single risk factor for microbial keratitis, particularly when worn in the extended wear modality. For microbial keratitis to occur, the presence of at least a bacterial load as well as a break in the corneal surface is required. One such break occurs in the case of a corneal erosion.

Diagnosis of Erosive Tooth Wear

2006
The clinical diagnosis 'erosion' is made from characteristic deviations from the original anatomical tooth morphology, thus distinguishing acid-induced tissue loss from other forms of wear. Primary pathognomonic features are shallow concavities on smooth surfaces occurring coronal from the enamel-cementum junction.

Inhibition of Erosive Wear by Fluoride Varnish

Caries Research, 2006
It has been suggested that fluoride products with a protective mechanical component are advantageous in the prevention of erosive wear. The aim of this study was to evaluate in situ the effect of fluoride varnish (FV) in the prevention of wear due to erosion and combined erosion and toothbrush abrasion.

The Mild-Severe Wear Transition in Erosion Wear

Tribology Letters, 2018
In this study, three types of abrasives and several types of heat treatments and materials were used to obtain 11 different abrasive/material hardness (Ha/Hm) ratios with the aim of elucidating the effect of the Ha/Hm ratio on the mild-severe wear transition in erosion wear.

Dental Erosion and Erosive Tooth Wear

2018
Dental erosion, a form of tooth wear caused by direct attack on the tooth surface of acid entering the mouth, either from beverages, acidic foods, gastric regurgitation or atmospheric pollution, is in both appearance and causation quite different from caries.

Challenges in Assessing Erosive Tooth Wear

2014
Indices for assessing erosive wear are expected to deliver more than is expected of an ideal index: simple with defined scoring criteria so that it is reproducible, reflective of the aetiology of the condition and accurately categorizing shape, area and depth of affect, both at a point in time (prevalence) and longitudinally (incidence/increment).

Erosive wear of composite materials

Wear, 1986
Abstract The erosive wear behavior of selected polymer matrix composite materials was investigated using an erosion wear tester. Scanning electron microscopy was used to characterize the eroded surface. The results show that the erosive wear rates in these materials are at least an order of magnitude greater than that of low carbon steel.

FEM analysis of erosive wear

Wear, 2001
Abstract Surface damage caused by the impact of dispersed particles in gas or liquid flow is called “erosion”. Much attention has been paid to this phenomenon as one of the most serious problems to be solved, particularly concerning pipe-bends or valves in pneumatic conveying systems.

Preventive dentistry 10. Erosive tooth wear

Nederlands Tijdschrift voor Tandheelkunde, 2018
Erosive tooth wear has recently been at the centre of attention and its prevalence of erosive tooth wear among adolescents in the Netherlands appears to be rising. The multifactorial nature of the aetiology of the condition makes it difficult to identify the relevant causal factors, both in individual cases and within the general population. Preventive
