The ERPF Theory and the UCEC Turbine: A New Paradigm for Ocean Energy Conversion
This article introduces the Energy Restoration by Planetary Fields (ERPF) theory, proposing a new paradigm for energy conversion in oceanic flows. Unlike classical models, which consider as available only the kinetic energy associated with the intercepted sectional area—bounded, for example, by the Betz limit—ERPF treats the ocean as an open, dynamic ...

Graphical summary of the experimental comparison of shear‐induced hemolysis in pediatric and adult blood using a Couette shearing device. Pediatric blood shows a trend toward lower increase in hemolysis at higher shear stress amplitudes, while no relevant differences are observed at low and intermediate stresses.

Performing PET/CT studies: do they create anxiety? [PDF]
Introduction: Anxiety is a common problem in primary care and specialty medical settings. Treating an anxious patient takes more time and adds stress to staff.

Abstract An important debate in the field of strategy and industrial organization economics has long focused on whether the industry environment or firm idiosyncrasies have a greater impact on firm performance. However, cooperatives have been excluded from this inquiry, despite profits being the primary means to achieve their social objectives.

Summary Evidence for an association between insulin‐like growth factors (IGF) and multiple myeloma (MM) is inconsistent. We examined total IGF‐I concentrations and risk of MM by combining baseline serological data among UK Biobank participants (n = 444 187; 732 incident MM) with a two‐sample Mendelian randomisation (MR) analysis using identified ...

Rapid generation of prion disease models using AAV‐delivered PrP variants in knockout mice
We developed a rapid AAV‐based system to generate prion disease models in weeks rather than months. Following systemic AAV9P31 delivery of modified PrP to knockout mice, we achieved brain‐wide expression and successful propagation of both classical (RML) and atypical (GSS‐A117V) prion strains.

A single amino acid change (L108I) combined with PrP overexpression drives spontaneous atypical prion formation in mice, enabling also efficient propagation of diverse prion strains. This model allows studying how spontaneous prion diseases arise and provides powerful tools for investigating strain emergence, transmission barriers, and mechanisms ...

Inhibitors of insulin‐degrading enzyme boost PI cytotoxicity through an increased sensitivity of proteasome to PI inhibitors, induction of ISR, DNA damage and Myc down‐regulation. They overcome PI resistance in vitro and induce tumour regression in vivo.

Terrain Synthesis and Authoring based on Iso‐Contours
Abstract Digital terrains are central to realistic landscape depiction, yet authoring tools must balance perceptual realism with intuitive artistic control. We propose a compact vector‐based representation that models terrain as nested iso‐contours, inspired by geomorphology and cartography.
