The influence of temperature on the depth distribution of sympatric Erpobdellidae (Hirudinoidea)

Canadian Journal of Zoology, 1987
Inter- and intra-specific differences in the behavioral responses of two sympatric Erpobdellidae, Nephelopsis obscura and Erpobdella punctata, to overall water temperature change and thermal gradients were investigated in the laboratory. The results are compared with the seasonal migratory patterns recorded in lentic field habitats.

Phylogeny of the leech family Erpobdellidae (Hirudinida : Oligochaeta)

Invertebrate Taxonomy, 2002
The phylogenetic relationships of the family Erpobdellidae, a group of non-sanguivorous leeches useful as bioindicators, were investigated with the combined use of morphological characters, mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I, mitochondrial 12S rDNA and nuclear 18S rDNA.

The diet of Erpobdella octoculata (Hirudinea: Erpobdellidae) in two Danish lowland streams

Fundamental and Applied Limnology, 1997
The diet of leeches and the effect of prey size on feeding success were examined using gut analyses of Erpobdella octoculata from two Danish lowland streams. Five weight (size) classes of leeches were examined. For each insect prey found in the guts the width of the head capsule was measured.

Activity and Foraging Behaviour in the Predatory Freshwater Leech Nephelopsis obscura (Erpobdellidae)

Functional Ecology, 1996
1. The hypotheses tested were that foraging behavioural responses (number of meals consumed, the number of encounters with prey and feeding time) and activity (swimming time) of the freshwater predatory leech Nephelopsis obscura were higher in the dark than in the light, increased with the size of the predator and increased with the length of the ...

Contribution to the knowledge of the genus Dina Blanchard, 1892 (Hirudinea: Erpobdellidae)

Hydrobiologia, 1995
This paper deals with the genus Dina of the Erpobdellidae. A comprehensive comparison of all known species of this genus is given. A lectotype for Dina absoloni Johansson, 1913, is selected. A new species, Dina latestriata n. sp. from Prespa Lake in Greece is described. Data concerning the evolution of Dina are given.

Dina sketi n. sp., a new erpobdellid leech (Hirudinida: Erpobdellidae) from Bosnia and Herzegovina

Zootaxa, 2014
The concept of the genera within the family Erpobdellidae seems to be extremely artificial. Recent phylogenetic studies (Trontelj & Sket 2000, Siddall 2002) based on morphology and DNA sequence data showed that a revision of the family was necessary because the morphological characters used to distinguish known erpobdellid genera are not ...

Ultrastructure of the sperm and spermatogenesis and spermiogenesis of Dina lineata (hirudinea, erpobdellidae)

Gamete Research, 1988
AbstractThe mature sperm of Dina lineata is of the modified type. The sperm are 48 μm long and 0.3 μm wide. The sperm are filiform and helicoidal cells with a distinct head, a midpiece, and a tail. There are two distinct regions in the head: the acrosome and the posterior acrosome, each with its own characteristic morphology.

Intralacustrine speciation in the genus Dina (Hirudinea, Erpobdellidae) in Lake Ohrid (Yugoslavia)

Hydrobiologia, 1989
An extensive speciation within Erpobdellidae (resp. Dina) has been noted in the Ohridsko Ezero (Lake) (Yugoslav-Albanian border). All species are anatomically similar to D. lineata, but differ strikingly in their body shapes. To the already described D. ohridana Sket and D. lepinjaSket & Sapkarev, descriptions of D. krilata sp. n., D. svilesta sp.
