Error Analysis (Error Calculation)
2021The quality of measured or observed values is described by the errors among those values, whereby a distinction is made between random and systematic errors. Random errors are dispersed, while systematic errors are essentially identifiable. Since random errors under identical measurement conditions differ in terms of value and sign (i.e., they are ...

The paper gives a historical survey of roundoff error analysis starting with a reappraisal of the classical paper by von Neumann and Goldstine; it is shown that their results compare less unfavorably with recent error analyses than is generally supposed.

A realization of the discrete Fourier transform using the ADPCM as the analog-to-digital conversion scheme is presented. Quantitative analysis is given for the output noise due to truncation error, roundoff error, input quantization, and due to finite bit representation of coefficients.

Reply to “Backward Error Analysis ...”
2006The algorithms of computational geometry are designed for a machine model with exact real arithmetic. Substituting floating-point arithmetic for the assumed real arithmetic may cause implementations to fail. Although this is well known, it is not common knowledge.

This commentary will take an historical perspective on the Kaufman Test of Educational Achievement (KTEA) error analysis, discussing where it started, where it is today, and where it may be headed in the future. In addition, the commentary will compare and contrast the KTEA error analysis procedures that are rooted in psychometric methodology and the ...
