Evaluation of satellite-based products for extreme rainfall estimations in the eastern coastal areas of China

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Environmental Sciences, 2019
Remotely sensed rainfall plays an important role in providing efficient approaches for global or regional rainfall analysis. However, the accuracy of satellite-based products is mainly affected by the errors in sensor observation and retrieval algorithms,

Survivin and Aurora Kinase A control cell fate decisions during mitosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aurora A interacts with survivin during mitosis and regulates its centromeric role. Loss of Aurora A activity mislocalises survivin, the CPC and BubR1, leading to disruption of the spindle checkpoint and triggering premature mitotic exit, which we refer to as ‘mitotic slippage’.

Analysis of quantum error correction with symmetric hypergraph states

open access: yes, 2018
Graph states have been used to construct quantum error correction codes for independent errors. Hypergraph states generalize graph states, and symmetric hypergraph states have been shown to allow for the correction of correlated errors. In this paper, it

CDK11 inhibition induces cytoplasmic p21WAF1 splice variant by p53 stabilisation and SF3B1 inactivation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CDK11 inhibition stabilises the tumour suppressor p53 and triggers the production of an alternative p21WAF1 splice variant p21L, through the inactivation of the spliceosomal protein SF3B1. Unlike the canonical p21WAF1 protein, p21L is localised in the cytoplasm and has reduced cell cycle‐blocking activity.

Is it ethical to avoid error analysis?

open access: yes, 2017
Machine learning algorithms tend to create more accurate models with the availability of large datasets. In some cases, highly accurate models can hide the presence of bias in the data.

Liquid biopsy epigenetics: establishing a molecular profile based on cell‐free DNA

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) fragments in plasma from cancer patients carry epigenetic signatures reflecting their cells of origin. These epigenetic features include DNA methylation, nucleosome modifications, and variations in fragmentation. This review describes the biological properties of each feature and explores optimal strategies for harnessing cfDNA ...

Selecting Critical WiFi APs for Indoor Localization Based on a Theoretical Error Analysis

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
The radio map built during the offline phase of any WiFi fingerprint-based localization system usually scales with the number of WiFi access points (APs) that can be detected at a single location by any mobile device, but this number in practice can be ...

Analysis of Adjoint Error Correction for Superconvergent Functional Estimates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Earlier work introduced the notion of adjoint error correction for obtaining superconvergent estimates of functional outputs from approximate PDE solutions. This idea is based on a posteriori error analysis suggesting that the leading order error term in
