Motion compensated shape error concealment
2004 International Conference on Image Processing, 2004. ICIP '04., 2005The introduction of Video Objects (VOs) is one of the innovations of MPEG-4. The alpha-plane of a VO defines its shape at a given instance in time and hence determines the boundary of its texture. In packet-based networks, shape, motion, and texture are subject to loss.

Truncation Error Compensation in Kernel Machines
2013 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics, 2013The analysis and prediction of time series data has played an important role for intelligent systems used in the area of cybernetics and human-machine interaction. Time series prediction is especially important in the case of unreliable communication of data acquired by intelligent systems.

Liquid surface tracking with error compensation
ACM Transactions on Graphics, 2013Our work concerns the combination of an Eulerian liquid simulation with a high-resolution surface tracker (e.g. the level set method or a Lagrangian triangle mesh). The naive application of a high-resolution surface tracker to a low-resolution velocity field can produce many visually disturbing physical and topological artifacts that limit their use in

Error Compensation in Leaf Root Problems
2004The k-Leaf Root problem is a particular case of graph power problems Here, we study “error correction” versions of k-Leaf Root—that is, for instance, adding or deleting at most l edges to generate a graph that has a k-leaf root We provide several NP-completeness results in this context, and we show that the NP-complete Closest 3-Leaf Root problem (the ...

Inertial measurement units (IMU) consist of accelerometers. Estimation accuracy of acceleration in a particular direction depends on how accurately accelerometers are placed at desired or ideal orientations. The estimation inaccuracy which results from inaccurate orientation of an accelerometer can be eliminated if the orientation error or the angle ...

Estimation and compensation of subpixel edge localization error
IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, 1997We propose and analyze a method for improving the performance of subpixel edge localization (EL) techniques through compensation of the systematic portion of the localization error. The method is based on the estimation of the EL characteristic through statistical analysis of a test image and is independent of the EL technique in use.
