Error exponents in asynchronous communication
2011 IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory Proceedings, 2011Based on recent work on asynchronous communication, this paper proposes a slotted asynchronous channel model and investigates the fundamental limits of asynchronous communication, in terms of miss and false alarm error exponents. We propose coding schemes that are suitable for various asynchronous communication scenarios, and quantify more precisely ...

Error exponents for sparse communication
2017 IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory (ISIT), 2017Communication over a discrete memoryless channel is addressed when codewords are transmitted in certain time intervals of arbitrary locations, at other times the channel outputs pure noise. The receiver has to locate and decode the codewords.

Error Exponents for Distributed Detection
IEEE Communications Letters, 2016We consider distributed detection in wireless sensor networks with a multiple-antenna fusion center. Using the large deviation principle and random matrix theory, we analyze the detection performance of optimal hypothesis testing in terms of error exponents for the false alarm and miss detection probabilities.

Controlled asynchronism improves error exponent
2015 IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory (ISIT), 2015Improved exponential error bounds are derived for frame-asynchronous discrete memoryless multiple access channels with two senders. By numerical evaluation for a particular case, it follows that the best error exponent known for synchronous transmission may be beaten if the senders are allowed to transmit with a chosen delay.

Error exponents of expander codes
IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 2002Summary: We show that expander codes attain the capacity of the binary-symmetric channel under iterative decoding. The error probability has a positive exponent for all rates between zero and the channel capacity. The decoding complexity grows linearly with the code length.

The Shannon rate-distortion function for arbitrary varying source (AVS) coding subject to error exponent or reliability criterion E > 0 is set up. In other words, the E-optimal (asymptotic lossy coding) rate R ges 0 for AVS under given requirement on reconstruction fidelity Delta ges 0 is specified.

Ensemble-tight error exponents for mismatched decoders
2012 50th Annual Allerton Conference on Communication, Control, and Computing (Allerton), 2012This paper studies channel coding for discrete memoryless channels with a given (possibly suboptimal) decoding rule. Using upper and lower bounds on the random-coding error probability, the exponential behavior of three random-coding ensembles is characterized. The ensemble tightness of existing achievable error exponents is proven for the i.i.d.
