The optimal Error Exponent for Markov Order Estimation

Proceedings. IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory, 1996
Summary: We consider the problem of estimating the order of a stationary ergodic Markov chain. Our focus is on estimators which satisfy a generalized Neyman-Pearson criterion of optimality. Specifically, the optimal estimator minimizes the probability of underestimation among all estimators with probability of overestimation not exceeding a given value.

On Error Exponents in Hypothesis Testing

IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 2005
The classical result of Blahut, which characterizes achievable error exponents in binary hypothesis testing, is generalized in two different directions. First, in M-ary hypothesis testing, the tradeoff of all M(M-1) types of error exponents and corresponding optimal decision schemes are explored.

New upper bounds on error exponents

IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 1999
Summary: The author derives new upper bounds on the error exponents for the maximum-likelihood decoding and error detecting in the binary symmetric channels. This is an improvement on the best earlier known bounds by Shannon-Gallager-Berlekamp (1967) and McEliece-Omura (1977).
