The Classification Power: A Metric for Evaluating and Comparing Postsecondary Mathematics Placement Policies

open access: yesJournal of Postsecondary Student Success
We introduce a new metric—the classification power—to examine the effectiveness of postsecondary mathematics placement policies. This metric addresses the methodological challenges of contextualizing the effectiveness of a single placement policy and ...

Can Punctured Rate-1/2 Turbo Codes Achieve a Lower Error Floor than their Rate-1/3 Parent Codes?

open access: yes, 2007
In this paper we concentrate on rate-1/3 systematic parallel concatenated convolutional codes and their rate-1/2 punctured child codes. Assuming maximum-likelihood decoding over an additive white Gaussian channel, we demonstrate that a rate-1/2 non ...

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Performance analysis of amplify-and-forward cooperative communication systems with imperfect channel estimation

open access: yesTongxin xuebao, 2011
The impact of channel estimation errors on the performance for two-hop multi-relays assisted am-plify-and-forward(AF) cooperative communication systems was investigated.Closed-form expressions of the average symbol error rate,as well as the diversity ...

Allocation Rules and Their Error Rates

open access: yesJournal of the Royal Statistical Society Series B: Statistical Methodology, 1966
Summary The problem of choosing allocation rules and assessing their errors of mis-allocation is formulated in general terms. An inequality connecting the average apparent, the optimum, and the average actual error is established. The distributions of the actual and apparent errors are considered in some special cases.

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

A Fast Soft Bit Error Rate Estimation Method

open access: yesEURASIP Journal on Wireless Communications and Networking, 2010
We have suggested in a previous publication a method to estimate the Bit Error Rate (BER) of a digital communications system instead of using the famous Monte Carlo (MC) simulation.

Bit Error Rate for NOMA Network

open access: yesIEEE Communications Letters, 2020
This letter examines the bit error rate (BER) performance of downlink non-orthogonal multiple access networks for binary phase-shift keying modulation. Exact BER expression is derived for each user in closed-form under additive white Gaussian noise and Rayleigh fading channels in perfect and imperfect successive interference cancellation (SIC) cases ...

Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

Colorectal cancer‐derived FGF19 is a metabolically active serum biomarker that exerts enteroendocrine effects on mouse liver

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...
