Follow set error recovery

Software: Practice and Experience, 1985
AbstractFollow set error recovery is a popular technique, implemented as part of a recursive descent parser, for recovering from syntax errors by editing the input string at the point of error detection. A formal description shows that follow set error recovery is, in actual fact, a family of similar techniques differing according to how follow set is ...

Noncorrecting syntax error recovery

ACM Transactions on Programming Languages and Systems, 1985
A parser must be able to continue parsing after encountering a syntactic error to check the remainder of the input. To achieve this, it is not necessary to perform corrections on either the input text or the stack contents. A formal framework is provided in which noncorrecting syntax error recovery concepts are defined and investigated.

Towards a Theory of Forward Error Recovery

IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering, 1985
When the state of a program in execution is accidentally altered, a recovery action may be needed before the execution can proceed on. Two approaches exist for the design of recovery actions: backward recovery consists of retrieving a previously saved correct state and restarting the computation; forward recovery consists of generating a (sufficiently)

A program structure for error detection and recovery

1985
The paper describes a method of structuring programs which aids the design and validation of facilities for the detection of and recovery from software errors. Associated with the method is a mechanism for the automatic preservation of restart information at a level of overhead which is believed to be tolerable.

Comments on an error‐recovery scheme by Hartmann

Software: Practice and Experience, 1980
AbstractA. C. Hartmann has described what is probably the definitive error‐recovery method for recursive‐descent parsers. Some comments are made on possible improvements, and an error is corrected.

Error recovery through programming

Proceedings of the December 9-11, 1968, fall joint computer conference, part I on - AFIPS '68 (Fall, part I), 1968
The requirement for error recovery procedures has existed as long as computers themselves. Since the earliest computers, one of the goals of design has been to increase the reliability and availability of the computer to the user. While great strides have been made in this direction, the need of error recovery is still as present today as ever and at ...

Convivial error recovery

Proceedings of the international conference on APL - APL '81, 1981
This paper presents a new approach to an Event Control Mechanism (ECM) for APL. After an informal review of some typical ECM implementations, it describes the general architecture of an ECM and shows how the mentioned implementations map onto it. An extended ECM is then presented that combines many features of existing implementations with some new ...

Compilation for Error Recovery

2016
In this chapter, we are interested in fault-tolerance against transient faults, which occur during the execution of the application, see Sect. 3.3 for a discussion on transient faults and how they can be detected. Biochemical applications are executed based on the electrode actuation sequence, which is produced in the compilation task, see Chap. 5 When

A global checkpointing model for error recovery

Proceedings of the May 16-19, 1983, national computer conference on - AFIPS '83, 1983
The paper proposes a new concept for providing software fault tolerance in concurrent systems. It combines the traditional global-checkpointing mechanism with the recovery-block concept in order to come up with an easily implementable errorrecovery mechanism.
