Test setup for error vector magnitude measurement on WLAN transceivers

2012 19th IEEE International Conference on Electronics, Circuits, and Systems (ICECS 2012), 2012
This paper presents a measurement system and experimental examples of error vector magnitude measurements on a wireless local area network receiver under several radio frequency impairments, with emphasis to local oscillator phase noise. An algorithm that cancels the phase and frequency carrier synchronization error is presented.

Error Vector Magnitude as a Performance Measure for Advanced Modulation Formats

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2012
We examine the relation between optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR), error vector magnitude (EVM), and bit-error ratio (BER). Theoretical results and numerical simulations are compared to measured values of OSNR, EVM, and BER. We conclude that the EVM is an appropriate metric for optical channels limited by additive white Gaussian noise.

Built-in Self Test for Error Vector Magnitude measurement of RF transceiver

open access: yes2009 International Test Conference, 2009
In Wireless systems, the overall quality of transmission and reception is determined by various baseband and RF system specifications. The Error Vector Magnitude (EVM) is a measure of the digital modulation quality of the wireless system-under-test which is very sensitive to much impairment in the transceiver. However the EVM test takes a long time and

A method for computing error vector magnitude in GSM EDGE systems-simulation results

IEEE Communications Letters, 2001
This paper describes the error vector magnitude (EVM) as it is specified for a GSM EDGE (8-PSK) system and presents a method of its derivation. Simulation results of the algorithm applied to a nonlinear power amplifier are shown, and compared to the data obtained with an alternative commercial implementation. The validity of the current EVM proposal as

Error Vector Magnitude (EVM)-Based Constellation Combiner for Cooperative Relay Network

IEEE Communications Letters, 2016
This letter proposes a novel diversity combining technique based on error vector magnitude (EVM) for a cooperative relay network. EVM is the vector difference for a given time between the transmitted signal and the received signal. At the destination, the proposed combiner combines the minimum EVM constellations obtained from the received links ...

Error vector magnitude measurement for power amplifiers under wideband load impedance mismatch: System-level analysis and VNA-based implementation [PDF]

open access: yesMeasurement: Journal of the International Measurement Confederation, 2022
The Error Vector Magnitude (EVM) is a fundamental metric used in communications to quantify the wideband distortion generated by a non-linear device subject to modulated excitation.

OFDM Error Vector Magnitude Distortion Analysis

IEICE Transactions on Electronics, 2006
We derived explicit formulas for evaluating the error vector magnitude (EVM) from the amplitude distortion (AM-AM) and phase distortion (AM-PM) of power amplifiers (PAs) in orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) systems, such as the IEEE 802.1 1a/g wireless local area networks (WLANs) standards.

Error Vector Magnitude Analysis for OFDM Systems

2006 Fortieth Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems and Computers, 2006
Error vector magnitude (EVM) is a popular figure-of-merit adopted by various communication standards for evaluating in-band distortions introduced in a communication system. In this paper, we regard EVM as a random variable and investigate its statistical distributions as the result of the following distortion mechanisms: phase noise, amplitude ...

Replacing Error Vector Magnitude Test with RF and Analog BISTs

IEEE Design & Test of Computers, 2011
RF and analog BIST techniques are capable of replacing the traditional error vector magnitude (EVM) test used in production. In a case study, four BISTs detected actual production faults in a commercial, highly integrated WLAN device. In combination with traditional digital testing, the BISTs caught an impressive 100% of EVM failures during production ...
