Grapevine powdery mildew, caused by the fungus Erysiphe necator, is a devastating disease with a worldwide occurrence. Commercial Vitis vinifera cultivars are highly susceptible to the pathogen, while several wild Vitis spp. demonstrate a high level of resistance.
