The Journal of Trauma: Injury, Infection, and Critical Care, 1981The anemia of thermal injury is characterized by a decreased RBC half-life and abnormal RBC morphology (predominantly echinocytes). These changes are reversible in crossover studies with normal recipients, suggesting an extrinsic mechanism unrelated to initial heat or mechanical damage.

[Erythrocyte membrane abnormality and hemolytic anemias].

The Japanese journal of clinical pathology, 1993Screening for hemolytic anemia was established in Fukuoka University Hospital based on automated analyses of enzymes and glycolytic intermediates in suspicious blood specimens. Using the screening system, we found more than ten hemolytic anemias due to abnormalities of membrane proteins, glycolytic enzymes and hemoglobin in the last two years.

[Abnormal erythrocyte membrane gangliosides in alcoholism].
Drug and alcohol dependence, 1988The pattern of gangliosides in membranes of erythrocytes was examined in healthy donors and in alcoholic subjects. Seven different gangliosides could be detected. In healthy donors the following pattern was found: GM3 = 17.6%, SPG = 43.1%, GD3 = 9.1%, GD1a = 12.8%, FucGD1b = 5.2%, GT1b = 6.7% and GX = 5.7%.
