Predictive Role of Hematological Biomarkers in Chronic Kidney Disease Progression

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, Volume 40, Issue 2, January 2026.
This retrospective study assessed the predictive value of hematological biomarkers in the progression and complications of chronic kidney disease (CKD) among 120 adult patients. Key findings revealed that declining hemoglobin and increasing red cell distribution width (RDW) and neutrophil‐to‐lymphocyte ratio (NLR) were significantly associated with ...

The Effects of Biofortified Cowpeas on Iron, Glucose, and Lipid Metabolism in Rats Fed a High‐Fat/High‐Sugar Diet

open access: yesMolecular Nutrition &Food Research, Volume 70, Issue 2, 29 January 2026.
Biofortified cowpea Aracê improved crypt size in the colon, lowered insulin levels. Biofortified cowpeas increased short‐chain fatty acids. Cowpeas increased HDL‐c concentrations, reduced the total cholesterol/HDL‐c ratio, and decreased fecal triglyceride excretion.

Associations between persistent postoperative anaemia and mortality 1 year after valvular heart surgery: a retrospective cohort study*

open access: yesAnaesthesia, Volume 81, Issue 1, Page 92-102, January 2026.
Summary Introduction Peri‐operative anaemia is a common problem in patients undergoing cardiac surgery.
