The importance of integrating herbarium records into conservation plans: a case study on Honduran ferns and lycophytes

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 8, Issue 4, Page 1238-1255, July 2026.
Herbarium collections are powerful, yet underutilized, tools for global biodiversity conservation and protected area management. By integrating digitized herbarium records with existing biodiversity data, previously unknown plant species were uncovered, exposing critical gaps in conservation knowledge.

Exploring Costa Rica's fungal trends: Insights from digitized specimens

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 8, Issue 4, Page 1256-1274, July 2026.
Fungi are essential to tropical ecosystems but remain largely absent from conservation agendas. By analyzing over 78,000 fungal records from Costa Rica—a globally recognized biodiversity hotspot—this study reveals key patterns in fungal diversity, distribution, and seasonality.

Substrate scope of ancestral versus modern family‐1 glycosidases

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 35, Issue 7, July 2026.
Abstract Experimental studies support that protein engineering based on ancestral sequence reconstruction often leads to variants with biotechnologically useful biomolecular properties. These may include high stability, enhanced conformational flexibility and a modified catalysis range.

Sustainability Implications of Last Mile in E‐Commerce: An Assessment Model

open access: yesTransportation Journal, Volume 65, Issue 3, Summer 2026.
ABSTRACT E‐commerce is a rapidly growing and evolving sector. Its negative impact on sustainability has also increased, with the last mile being a key contributor. The sector is however struggling to tackle this impact, even though previous studies have tried to measure it. These studies have focused on one or two of the three pillars of sustainability
