Application of the esem technique in wood research
2003An extensive study using the ESEM (Environmental Scanning Electron Microscopy) technique has been performed on wood objects in order that the particular advantages, possibilities and limitations of this microscopic tool are being assessed. The aim of this report is to present the valuable experience gained in optimizing operational and imaging ...

Mechanisms of detection and imaging in the ESEM
Journal of Microscopy, 1990SUMMARYFor proper understanding of image formation using charge carriers, it is shown that signal detection by means of induction must be considered. This explains the possibility of imaging insulators as well as other phenomena especially in the conditions of the environmental scanning electron microscope.

Electron Beam Profile in the ESEM
Proceedings, annual meeting, Electron Microscopy Society of America, 1988The examination of specimens in the presence of gas in the environmental scanning electron microscope (ESEM) requires the electron beam to pass through a minimum (optimum) 1ayer of gas before it strikes the specimen. The electron scattering by the gas molecules results in a modification of the original beam profile.

Cracking of Drying Latex Films: An ESEM Experiment
Langmuir, 2010In this study environmental scanning electron microscopy was used to observe the cracking of drying latex films below their glass-transition temperature. By controlling the relative humidity so that it decreases linearly with time, a critical level of humidity at which cracking occurs can be determined and this is measured as a function of film ...

Electron scattering cross-section measurements in ESEM
Micron, 2013A review, analysis and discussion on the derivation and measurement of electron scattering cross-sections of gases mostly used in environmental scanning electron microscopy is presented together with some previously unreported experimental material. There are significant differences in values published for cross-sections of such gases.
