Study of green‐coloured gems of the Roman period from the collections of the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki (Greece) and their possible geographic origin

Nineteen green‐coloured gems in jewellery of the Roman period from the collections of the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki were studied with optical microscope, mobile Raman and Vis‐NIR spectroscopy as well as EDXRF. Seventeen out of nineteen gems were identified as natural emeralds with characteristics similar to Egyptian emeralds.

The authors have been working on the unpublished Greek and Latin inscriptions preserved at the museum of Eskişehir for many years. In this contribution 43 new inscriptions are presented which have been recorded over previous years.
