Esophageal atresia and tracheo-esophageal fistula
Management of esophageal atresia has merged from correction of the anomaly to the complete spectrum of management of esophageal atresia and all its sequelae. It is the purpose of this article to give an overview of all aspects involved in taking care of patients with esophageal atresia between January 2011 and June 2016, as well as the patients who ...

Esophageal anomalies present a challenge to the pediatric surgeon and demand close attention and care from the nursing staff as well as the surgical staff. We have encountered a survival rate of 96 per cent for all infants undergoing operation for esophageal atresia.

Esophageal stenosis with esophageal atresia
Pediatric Radiology, 1987Esophageal atresia with tracheosophageal fistula may be associated rarely with distal esophageal stenosis. Three patients are reported with this combination of esophageal anomalies. In addition the clinical and radiologic features of 24 patients previously reported in the literature are reviewed.

Esophageal function in esophageal atresia
Digestive Diseases and Sciences, 1981In order to determine the spectrum of esophageal dysfunction in repaired esophageal atresia, 14 patients were evaluated with esophageal manometry, intraluminal pH recording, and radiology. Nine patients had no difficulty in swallowing but six had symptoms suggestive of gastroesophageal (GE) reflux. On pH recording, six had evidence of GE reflux.

Management of esophageal atresia
World Journal of Surgery, 1993AbstractA total of 303 infants with esophageal atresia and/or tracheoesophageal fistula were treated over 10 years (1980–1989). The overall survival rate was 86.5%. Associated anomalies were identified in 51.8% of patients, the most common being cardiac malformations which affected 24.4% of infants and was responsible for the majority of deaths.

Hypogastrinemia and esophageal atresia
Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 1992To investigate extraesophageal anomalies in infants with esophageal atresia, preoperative plasma gastrin was measured in 12 infants. The median plasma gastrin was 32 ng/L (interquartile range, 24 to 44). There was significant correlation with birth weight (rs = .73, P less than .05) and gestational age (rs = .74, P less than .05).

CHARGE association was diagnosed in 61 infants, 20 of whom died, mainly during the first 2 years of life. Esophageal atresia and/or tracheoesophageal fistula were present in 10 neonates. Axial skeletal anomalies occurred in 7 of the 10, but none had preaxial limb defects typical of the VATER association.
