EXPERIMENTAL ESOPHAGEAL AND PHARYNGOCERVICAL FISTULA

Archives of Surgery, 1951
ESOPHAGEAL fistulas in the laboratory animal have been utilized for a variety of experimental purposes. Pavlov and Schumova-Simanovskaia 1 used dogs with cervical and gastric fistulas in their studies on the relationship of the vagus nerves to gastric secretion. Pavlov 2 states that neck infection in the dog is serious and often fatal.

Esophageal-Pericardial and Esophageal-Atrial Fistulae

Thoracic Surgery Clinics
Fistulae between the esophagus and the pericardium or the left atrium are rare but feared complications of transcatheter ablations and esophageal procedures and pathologies. Patients may present variably with cardiopulmonary, gastrointestinal, infectious, and/or neurologic symptoms; a high index of suspicion is paramount.

Esophageal Atresia and Tracheoesophageal Fistula

The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 1980
Fifty-seven babies were surgically treated for esophageal atresia and tracheoesophageal fistula between 1968 and 1978. Forty-eight (84%) had proximal esophageal atresia and a distal tracheoesophageal fistula, 2 (4%) had proximal and distal esophageal atresia and no tracheosophageal fistula, and 7 (12%) had a tracheosophageal fistula without esophageal ...

Bronchoesophageal fistula with an esophageal web

The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 1990
Congenital bronchoesophageal fistulas in the adult age group are rare, with only approximately 20 cases having been recognized. All of these cases have been an isolated esophageal anomaly without other associated esophageal pathology. We present an interesting case of an adult with both symptomatic congenital bronchoesophageal fistula and proximal ...

Intrinsic esophageal innervation in esophageal atresia without fistula

Pediatric Surgery International, 2007
Esophageal atresia and tracheo-esophageal fistula (EA + TEF) are often associated with malformations of neural crest origin. Esophageal innervation is also derived from the neural crest and it is abnormal in EA + TEF in which there is motor dysfunction.

Malrotation in conjunction with esophageal atresia/tracheo-esophageal fistula

Teratology, 1999
Esophageal atresia or tracheo-esophageal fistula (EA/TEF) often occurs in association with a well-defined group of other anomalies. We report the prevalence of malrotation and other intestinal anomalies in a large data series comprising 632 nontrisomic infants with EA/TEF ascertained by the California Birth Defects Monitoring Program from January 1 ...

Aorto-esophageal Fistula Management

Thoracic Surgery Clinics
Aorto-esophageal fistula is a rare but life-threatening source of massive upper gastrointestinal bleeding. Prompt diagnosis and intervention are key for patient survival. Treatments consist of aortic resection, thoracic endovascular aortic repair, esophagectomy with diversion, and primary esophageal repair.
