Esophageal-Pericardial and Esophageal-Atrial Fistulae
Thoracic Surgery ClinicsFistulae between the esophagus and the pericardium or the left atrium are rare but feared complications of transcatheter ablations and esophageal procedures and pathologies. The vast majority of acquired abnormal esophageal communications are esophagorespiratory fistulas. 50 to 90% of them are due to intrathoracic malignant disease (Monserrat, 1941; Moersch and Tinnea, 1944; Coleman, 1957; J. Don and V. Dor, 1964; Sebastian et al., 1969).
