Esophageal Melanoma - A Rare Neoplasm
A 70 year old man having progressive dysphagia, coronary artery disease (CAD) with an Ejection Fraction (EF) of 30% was detected to have a poorly differentiated esophageal malignancy. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) was positive for HMB 45 and SOX 10 confirming esophageal melanoma.

This study evaluated immune‐related biomarkers in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors after postoperative recurrence. PD‐L1 expression in tumor‐associated macrophages and tumor cells, together with HLA class I downregulation and HLA‐DR expression, were associated with favorable responses to immunotherapy.

According to multivariable analysis conducted using a hierarchical logistic regression model, using VHH as the reference group, the odds ratios for mortality by hospital volume category were as follows: VLH, 2.70 (p < 0.0001); LH, 1.72 (p = 0.052); MH, 1.70 (p = 0.034); and HH, 1.43 (p = 0.173).
