Utility of Esophageal Physiologic Tests in Eosinophilic Esophagitis

open access: yesInflammatory Intestinal Diseases
Background: In patients with eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), the correlation between symptoms of esophageal dysfunction and endoscopic and histologic disease activity is generally poor and probably related to multiple causes such as esophageal remodeling

Proton pump inhibitor-responsive chronic cough without acid reflux: a case report

open access: yesJournal of Medical Case Reports, 2007
Background Because 24-h esophageal pH monitoring is quite invasive, the diagnosis of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)-associated cough has usually been made based merely on the clinical efficacy of treatment with proton pump inhibitor (PPI).

A pH Sensor Scaffold for Mapping Spatiotemporal Gradients in Three Dimensional In Vitro Tumour Models [PDF]

open access: yesBiosensors and Bioelectronics, 2022, 15, 114401
The detection of extracellular pH at single cell resolution is challenging and requires advanced sensibility. Sensing pH at a high spatial and temporal resolution might provide crucial information in understanding the role of pH and its fluctuations in a wide range of physio-pathological cellular processes, including cancer.

Multi‐Walled Carbon Nanotube Reinforced Polyacrylamide‐Acrylic Acid Nanocomposite Hydrogels With Superior Mechanical and Tribological Performance as Focal Cartilage Substitute

open access: yesPolymer Engineering &Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Though mimicking cartilage's structure, hydrogels often present weak mechanical performance, which limits their use in cartilage repair. Here, nanocomposite hydrogel was synthesized by incorporating multi‐walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) into a covalently bonded polyacrylamide/polyacrylic acid (PAAm/PAAc) hydrogel. Fourier transform infrared and

Current Advances in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Nonerosive Reflux Disease

open access: yesGastroenterology Research and Practice, 2013
Nonerosive reflux disease (NERD) is a distinct pattern of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). It is defined as a subcategory of GERD characterized by troublesome reflux-related symptoms in the absence of esophageal mucosal erosions/breaks at ...

High Resolution and High Precision Beam Profile Monitor for Particle Accelerator using linear contact image sensor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
A compact beam-profile monitor was constructed using a linear contact image sensor attached to a plastic scintillator and tested using a 230 MeV proton beam. The results indicate that the beam distribution can be obtained in real-time, and the beam position with a precision of up to 0.03 mm.

Nanomedicine Approaches for Autophagy Modulation in Cancer Therapy

open access: yesSmall Science, EarlyView.
Autophagy modulation holds promise for enhancing cancer treatment, yet clinical translation remains challenging. This review explores nanomedicine‐based strategies to improve autophagy‐targeting drugs, highlighting their synergy with chemotherapy, immunotherapy, phototherapy, and gene therapy. It also discusses nanoparticle design and clinical progress,

pH sensing properties of flexible, bias-free graphene microelectrodes in complex fluids: from phosphate buffer solution to human serum [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
Advances in techniques for monitoring pH in complex fluids could have significant impact on analytical and biomedical applications ranging from water quality assessment to in vivo diagnostics. We developed flexible graphene microelectrodes (GEs) for rapid (< 5 seconds), very low power (femtowatt) detection of the pH of complex biofluids.

A 3D Pancreatic Cancer Model with Integrated Optical Sensors for Noninvasive Metabolism Monitoring and Drug Screening [PDF]

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials 2024, 2401138
A distinct feature of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a prominent tumor microenvironment (TME) with remarkable cellular and spatial heterogeneity that meaningfully impacts disease biology and treatment resistance. The dynamic crosstalk between cancer cells and the dense stromal compartment leads to spatially and temporally heterogeneous ...

Diagnosis and Monitoring Pathways Using Non‐Invasive Tests in Patients With Alpha‐1 Antitrypsin Deficiency‐Associated Liver Disease: Results From an Expert Delphi Panel

open access: yesUnited European Gastroenterology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims The severe alpha‐1 antitrypsin deficiency (AATD) genotype Pi*ZZ increases the risk of liver disease (AATD‐LD) and lung disease. While non‐invasive tests (NITs) are widely used for fibrosis stage and monitoring of all liver diseases, the consensus for use in AATD‐LD is limited.
