Triangulating stapling vs functional end-to-end stapling for cervical esophagogastric anastomosis after esophagectomy for thoracic esophageal cancer: study protocol for a randomized controlled trial

open access: yesTrials, 2019
Background Several studies have reported that the triangulating stapling method decreases the incidence of anastomotic stricture after esophagectomy.

A Novel Endoscopic Strategy for Addressing Complex Gastrointestinal Defects via the X‐Tack System: A Case Series With Videos

open access: yesDEN Open, Volume 6, Issue 1, April 2026.
ABSTRACT The management of complex gastrointestinal defects (CGDs), such as fistulas, leaks, and anastomotic dehiscence, remains challenging. Over‐the‐scope suturing (OTSS) systems provide effective closure, but their application is limited to specific anatomical sites.

Redefining the Treatment Landscape in Gastroparesis: A Clinical Review of Gastric Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy Outcomes and Therapeutic Integration

open access: yesDEN Open, Volume 6, Issue 1, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Gastroparesis is a chronic gastric motility disorder marked by delayed gastric emptying in the absence of mechanical obstruction. For patients with symptoms refractory to medical and dietary therapy, Gastric Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy (G‐POEM) has emerged as a minimally invasive, pylorus‐targeted intervention that directly addresses pyloric ...

Successful Endoscopic Removal and Closure of a Large Esophageal Perforation Following Accidental Ingestion of a Dental Prosthesis

open access: yesDEN Open, Volume 6, Issue 1, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Endoscopic removal of accidentally ingested dental prostheses can be challenging as their irregular shapes can occasionally cause severe complications, such as gastrointestinal perforation. Here, we present the case of an older woman who was referred to our hospital following accidental ingestion of a bridge‐type denture.

Thoracolaparoscopic McKeown esophagectomy

open access: yesJournal of Thoracic Disease, 2019
Unlike Europe and America, the rate of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) in China is 90% higher (1); also, most of the lesions are located at the middle thoracic part of the esophagus. There has been an increasing number of esophagectomies has been performing by video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) in China.

Conversion Therapy for cT4b and M1 Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma: A Comprehensive Systematic Review

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, Volume 10, Issue 2, Page 294-304, March 2026.
We systematically reviewed conversion therapy for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma and propose a response‐based treatment strategy for cT4b and M1 disease. For cT4b, we emphasize definitive chemoradiotherapy with timed re‐evaluation and selective salvage or chemoselection to surgery; for M1, conversion is reserved for limited‐burden responders with ...

Impact of Circular Stapler Size on Short‐Term Outcomes and Long‐Term Quality of Life After McKeown Esophagectomy

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, Volume 10, Issue 2, Page 424-430, March 2026.
In this study, we investigated the impact of circular stapler size on both short‐term outcomes and long‐term QOL after McKeown esophagectomy. We revealed that short‐term outcomes, including anastomotic leakage and stenosis, did not differ between patients who underwent anastomosis with a 21 mm stapler and those with a 23 mm stapler.

Minimally Invasive Esophagectomy

open access: yesJournal of Gastrointestinal Surgery, 2010
Minimally invasive esophagectomy has gained popularity over the past two decades. The procedural goal is to decrease the high overall morbidity of a traditional open esophageal resection. The entire spectrum of open esophagectomy techniques has been successfully replicated in a minimally invasive fashion.Esophagectomy remains one of the most ...

Internal hernia to the retrosternal space is a rare complication after minimally invasive esophagectomy: three case reports

open access: yesSurgical Case Reports, 2019
Background Minimally invasive esophagectomy is considered a beneficial approach to esophageal cancer, although a hiatal hernia occurs more frequently in this approach than in open esophagectomy with reconstruction via the mediastinal route.
