Demographic buffering in natural populations: A multi‐level perspective

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, Volume 95, Issue 8, Page 1298-1310, August 2026.
We introduce a multi‐level framework that unites stochastic elasticities with nonlinear selection to test demographic buffering. Applying it across mammals reveals a key insight: ecological robustness to variability often decouples from evolutionary constraint, reshaping how we understand resilience under environmental stochasticity.

Parasitoidism by Brachymeria pandora (Hymenoptera: Chalcididae) in Pupae of Danaus erippus (Lepidoptera: Nymphalidae) in an Urban Savanna Area

open access: yesAustral Entomology, Volume 65, Issue 3, August 2026.
ABSTRACT The Chalcididae comprises parasitoid wasps that attack various invertebrate groups. Within the family, some Brachymeria species specialises in infecting pupae of Lepidoptera. Here, we quantitatively describe the relationship between Brachymeria pandora and the Southern Monarch butterfly, Danaus erippus, in urban areas of Cuiabá, Mato Grosso ...

Mitoquinone Prevents Cardiac Dysfunction by Normalizing Mitochondrial ROS and Calcium Handling in Acute Myocardial Infarction

open access: yesActa Physiologica, Volume 242, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Acute myocardial infarction (MI) is the leading cause of heart failure (HF). However, the role of mitochondrial ROS (ROSm) in early MI dysfunction remains unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of MitoQ on cardiac function in cases of heart HF following MI.

Weight Gains Across Adulthood—The ELSA‐Brasil Study

open access: yesClinical Obesity, Volume 16, Issue 4, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Our objective was to describe weight, fat mass, skeletal mass and waist gains across the adult lifespan. We analysed data from 11 611 participants in the Brazilian Longitudinal Study of Adult Health, aged 35–74 years at baseline and followed from 2008 to 2024. Anthropometric measurements were performed at all visits, and bioimpedance at follow‐

Why Are Most Fish Populations Genetically Homogeneous Along the Southwestern Atlantic Coast? The Role of Life History Traits in Shaping Genetic Patterns

open access: yesJournal of Biogeography, Volume 53, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim Investigate patterns of population genetic structure in Southwestern Atlantic marine fishes and evaluate how geographic range, habitat diversity, and evolutionary history shape population connectivity. Location Southwestern Atlantic, including the Caribbean, Brazilian coast, and Patagonian region, between 0°59′ N and 40°16′ S.

Clarifying the Labrisomus Conundrum: Deep Divergence, Cryptic Lineages, and a Genetic Melting Pot in the Atlantic Ocean (Teleostei, Labrisomidae)

open access: yesJournal of Biogeography, Volume 53, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim We evaluate the phylogenetic relationships and taxonomic validity of Atlantic species of Labrisomus, identifying the lineages currently assigned to L. nuchipinnis, and assessing the role of biogeographic barriers in shaping the evolutionary history and geographic distribution of the genus. Location Atlantic Ocean.
