Seasonal and inter-annual variability of the phytoplankton communities in an upwelling area of the Alborán Sea (SW Mediterranean Sea)

open access: yesScientia Marina, 2005
Temporal variability (seasonal and inter-annual) in the assembly of phytoplankton communities from the northern Alborán Sea was investigated. For this purpose, the taxonomic composition of the micro- and nano-phytoplankton communities at three fixed ...

Synergetic Combination of Carbon Xerogels, Graphene Oxide and nano‐ZnO for Aqueous and Organic Supercapacitors

open access: yesBatteries &Supercaps, Volume 8, Issue 3, March 2025.
This work proposes the synthesis of carbon‐based nanostructured materials obtained using ZnO as both nanos‐ template and catalysts simultaneously. During the synthesis, GO was used as a stabiliser, preventing the collapse of the 3D structure and improving its properties in terms of capacitance and surface area.

Isotopic discrimination factors and nitrogen turnover rates in reared Atlantic bluefin tuna larvae (Thunnus thynnus): effects of maternal transmission

open access: yesScientia Marina, 2016
The use of stable isotope analysis to study animal diets requires estimates of isotopic turnover rates (half time, t50) and discrimination factors (Δ) for an accurate interpretation of trophic patterns.

Elucidating the Pivotal Role of Thermodynamics and Nanofiller Geometry on the Stereocomplexation of Polylactide Nanocomposites Filled With Graphene Oxide, Carbon Nanotubes, and Their Hybrid

open access: yesPolymer Composites, EarlyView.
Polylactide stereocomplexation in GO/CNT‐filled nanocomposites, illustrating the CNT/GO wetting interface in the presence of stereocomplexed polylactide as a third medium. ABSTRACT Incorporating nanoparticles can meaningfully alter the stereocomplexation of polylactide systems.

Global Variation in Out‐of‐Pocket Payments for Cancer Surgery

open access: yesWorld Journal of Surgery, EarlyView.
Cancer is one of the most expensive global health challenges and surgery is needed in most cases. This study aimed to describe out‐of‐pocket payments for cancer surgery across country income groups. ABSTRACT Introduction Cancer is one of the most expensive global health challenges and surgery is needed in most cases. This study aimed to describe out‐of‐

Postflexion larvae and juvenile daily growth patterns of the Alborán Sea sardine (Sardina pilchardus Walb.): influence of wind

open access: yesScientia Marina, 2006
The Alborán Sea is a hydrographically complex and variable area in which wind-driven coastal upwelling occurs. Its most abundant small pelagic resource is the sardine (Sardina pilchardus), which is subject to major interannual oscillations.

Seasonal and Long-Term Variability of the Mixed Layer Depth and its Influence on Ocean Productivity in the Spanish Gulf of Cádiz and Mediterranean Sea

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2022
The warming of the surface ocean is expected to increase the stratification of the upper water column. This would decrease the efficiency of the wind-induced mixing, reducing the nutrient supply to the euphotic layer and the productivity of the oceans ...
