Assessing changes in size at maturity for the European hake (Merluccius merluccius) in Atlantic Iberian waters

open access: yesScientia Marina, 2022
European hake (Merluccius merluccius) is a commercially important resource in Iberian Atlantic waters. Despite the recovery plan implemented in 2006 and the multiannual management plan for western waters, fishing mortality is still higher than that ...

Tracking the effect of temperature in marine demersal fish communities

open access: yesEcological Indicators, 2021
Under current levels of global warming most demersal species in the Northeast Atlantic are experiencing tropicalization, meridionalization or borealization of their distributions, leading to profound changes in demersal communities.

A Discrete-to-Continuum Model of Weakly Interacting Incommensurate Two-Dimensional Lattices

open access: yes, 2017
In this paper we propose a continuum variational model for a two-dimensional deformable lattice of atoms interacting with a two-dimensional rigid lattice.

Seasonal and inter-annual variability of the phytoplankton communities in an upwelling area of the Alborán Sea (SW Mediterranean Sea)

open access: yesScientia Marina, 2005
Temporal variability (seasonal and inter-annual) in the assembly of phytoplankton communities from the northern Alborán Sea was investigated. For this purpose, the taxonomic composition of the micro- and nano-phytoplankton communities at three fixed ...

Isotopic discrimination factors and nitrogen turnover rates in reared Atlantic bluefin tuna larvae (Thunnus thynnus): effects of maternal transmission

open access: yesScientia Marina, 2016
The use of stable isotope analysis to study animal diets requires estimates of isotopic turnover rates (half time, t50) and discrimination factors (Δ) for an accurate interpretation of trophic patterns.

Gender Mainstreaming in Urban Food Policies: Governance Processes and Policy Designs From Three Spanish Cities

open access: yesEuropean Policy Analysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper explores the integration of gender mainstreaming in urban food policies (UFPs) through three Spanish case studies: Barcelona, Valencia, and Zaragoza. While UFPs are pivotal for addressing sustainability in urban food systems, attention to gender disparities within them remains insufficient.

Effect of Propylene–Oxide Segment Length on Cleansing Performance of Detergents With Nonionic Surfactants

open access: yesJournal of Surfactants and Detergents, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Understanding the relationship between surfactant molecular structure and cleansing performance is essential for the rational design of high‐performance detergents. In this study, we investigate the effect of propylene oxide (PO) chain length on the detergency of nonionic surfactants through a combination of experimental measurements and ...

Strategies to Improve the Water Resistance of Nanofibers Obtained by Suspension Electrospinning

open access: yesMacromolecular Materials and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study develops water‐resistant nanofibers by optimizing template concentration and exploring innovative methods. It identifies the minimum concentration for uniform fibers using monomodal latex and introduces bimodal latex for higher productivity with reduced template use.
