Studies on Neotropical Fauna and Environment, 2000
Ciliated protozoa from the giant rosettes of Espeletia trees (Compositae) and Espeletia soils were studied in four samples each from the Andean PÝramo in Venezuela and Ecuador. Collections were analysed with the non-flooded Petri dish method, which reactivates the ciliates' resting cysts from air-dried samples.

Automatic Detection and Mapping of Espeletia Plants from UAV Imagery
2021 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium IGARSS, 2021This paper proposes an automatic method for detection and mapping of Espeletia plants from aerial images acquired by UAV drone. The proposed approach integrated a computer vision for automatic extraction of training zones and tested on three well-established machine learning algorithms to detect regions belonging to Espeletia plants.

Adaptive radiation of Espeletia in the cold andean tropics
Trends in Ecology & Evolution, 1991The genus Espeletia (Asteraceae) underwent an accelerated adaptive radiation in the new habitats of the high tropical Andes after the retreat of the glaciers. From the ancestral rainforest species, with tree-like forms, the genus diversified at high altitude, developing morphological and physiological adaptations to the peculiar combination of low ...

Characterization of cellulases of fungal endophytes isolated from Espeletia spp.
Journal of Microbiology, 2012Endophytes are microorganisms that asymptomatically invade plant tissues. They can stimulate plant growth and/or provide defense against pathogen attacks through the production of secondary metabolites. Most endophyte species are still unknown, and because they may have several applications, the study of their metabolic capabilities is essential.

Essential Oil of the Leaves fromEspeletia batataCuatrec
Journal of Essential Oil Research, 2001Abstract The composition of the leaf oil of Espeletia batata Cuatrec. was analyzed by capillary GC and GC/MS. Forty-two compounds were identified corresponding to 95.6% of the oil. The major components were α-pinene (35.4%), α-thujene (12.5%), β-pinene (12.1%), limonene (8.5%), and myrcene (4.7%).

Desiccation and Freezing Phenomena for Plants with Large Water Capacitance — Cacti and Espeletias
1992Cacti and espeletias are native to dissimilar habitats, although the two groups must cope with several similar environmental constraints. Cacti, which are succulent plants that utilize crassulacean acid metabolism (CAM), grow in habitats characterized by long periods of drought (Ting 1985; Nobel 1988a).
