Road mortality mitigation for red wolves requires a landscape approach
In 1980, the red wolf Canis rufus was declared extinct in the wild. However, starting in 1987, a captive breeding program allowed for a reintroduction effort in and around Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge (Alligator River NWR), North Carolina, USA. In 2012 the wild red wolf population peaked at about 120 individuals.

Methods to estimate abundance from unmarked populations of animals are widely used because of their efficiency and presumed accuracy. These methods account for imperfect detection by comparing observed data against the assumed distribution of the entire population.

Understanding how wild ungulates share space with domestic livestock is central to conservation planning in Himalayan multi‐use landscapes. This study focuses on multi‐axis niche relationships among six wild ungulates: hangul Cervus hanglu hanglu, Kashmir musk deer Moschus cupreus, Himalayan goral Naemorhedus goral, kashmir markhor Capra falconeri ...

We estimated seasonal space use, cover selection, and resource selection; evaluated gene flow and potential genetic barriers; and assessed cause‐specific survival rates and reproduction of radiomarked gray foxes in Indiana, USA. Our results provide evidence that gray foxes in Indiana are an edge species with relatively large home ranges, relatively low

We developed a web GIS system that delivers geospatial data for Wyoming and the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem (GYE) using cloud‐optimized formats and open‐source tools to support regional ecological research and management. Using pronghorn as an example, we combined observed locations with environmental covariates from our geospatial library to map ...

Mobile consumers influence the shoreward edge of intertidal seagrass ecosystems
Ecological paradigms suggest that the environmentally stressful edge of a habitat is determined by physical factors. The work finds that, counter to these paradigms, an environmentally stressful edge can also be impacted by biotic interactions and are more complex than suggested.

Challenging the narrative about howler monkeys' high resilience to anthropogenic changes, our multiscale analysis reveals the costs of habitat disturbance to their movement ecology. We identify thermal limitations, reduced travel efficiency, and significant spatial saturation.
