Essential enhancements in Abelian networks: Continuity and uniform strict monotonicity [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Probability, 2023
We prove that in wide generality the critical curve of the activated random walk model is a continuous function of the deactivation rate, and we provide a bound on its slope, which is uniform with respect to the choice of the graph.

Enhanced Cell Proliferation in Essential Hypertension

Journal of Cardiovascular Pharmacology, 1990
In order to define the molecular mechanism involved in enhancement of spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHR) cell proliferation, we have compared the actions of fetal calf serum (FCS) and angiotensin II on both SHR and Wistar-Kyoto (WKY) rat aortic smooth muscle cells. Both compounds are more mitogenic in SHR cells than in controls.

Essential Fatty Acids as Transdermal Penetration Enhancers

Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 2016
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of different penetration enhancers, containing essential fatty acids (EFAs), on the transdermal delivery of flurbiprofen. Evening primrose oil (EPO), vitamin F, and Pheroid technology all contain fatty acids and were compared using a cream-based formulation.

The Most Essential Moral Virtues Enhance Happiness

Journal of Bioethical Inquiry, 2023
Eight moral virtues that have figured prominently in various cultures throughout history will be discussed: altruism, empathy, gratitude, humility, and the "cardinal virtues" of justice, prudence, fortitude, and temperance. The focus will be on how to understand them and what their relationship is to happiness.

Verapamil-Induced Vasodilation Is Enhanced in Essential Hypertension

Journal of Cardiovascular Pharmacology, 1982
The dependency of arteriolar tone on calcium influx was studied in 11 patients with essential hypertension (EHT) and compared to 11 age-matched normotensive (NT) subjects by measuring the forearm blood flow (FAF) response to intraarterial infusion of the calcium channel blocker verapamil (Verap) and the nonspecific vasodilator sodium nitroprusside (Nip)

A downstream enhancer is essential for Xenopus FoxD5 transcription

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2004
We have isolated and sequenced the pseudo-allelic versions of FoxD5 genes in Xenopus laevis, xlFoxD5a and xlFoxD5b, and the xtFoxD5 gene of Xenopus tropicalis. These genes show a highly conserved structure, they are composed of only one exon, and they exhibit a high degree of sequence conservation within their flanking sequences. The X. tropicalis gene

Verapamil-induced vasodilator response is enhanced in essential hypertension

General Pharmacology: The Vascular System, 1983
Forearm blood flow response to the calcium channel inhibitor verapamil, 1 75 micrograms/100 ml tissue, as measured by venous occlusion plethysmography, was found to be significantly greater in 11 patients with essential hypertension as compared to 11 age-matched normotensive subjects whereas there was no significant difference in increase in forearm ...

Enhancing the effectiveness of behavioral treatments of essential hypertension

Physiology & Behavior, 1981
Abstract Several issues are discussed relevant to the assessment of behavioral treatments for essential hypertension. It is concluded that, because of the extreme variability of BP, large samples of BP behavior should be observed giving special attention to the representativeness of place and circumstance of BP measurement. Experimental evaluation of
