A noninvasive handheld assistive device to accommodate essential tremor: A pilot study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Background We explored whether a noninvasive handheld device using Active Cancellation of Tremor (ACT) technology could stabilize tremor‐induced motion of a spoon in individuals with essential tremor (ET). Methods Fifteen ET subjects (9 men, 6 women)

Informed consent decision-making in deep brain stimulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Deep brain stimulation (DBS) has proved useful for several movement disorders (Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor, dystonia), in which first and/or second line pharmacological treatments were inefficacious.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Neuroimaging in Functional Movement Disorders. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Functional movement disorders are common and disabling causes of abnormal movement control. Here, we review the current state of the evidence on the use of neuroimaging in Functional movement disorders, particularly its role in helping

Tracking Motor Progression and Device‐Aided Therapy Eligibility in Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To characterise the progression of motor symptoms and identify eligibility for device‐aided therapies in Parkinson's disease, using both the 5‐2‐1 criteria and a refined clinical definition, while examining differences across genetic subgroups.

Essential tremor: clinical evaluation of 176 patients [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
We reviewed the clinical records of 176 patients with essential tremor (ET) according to sex, age of onset, family history, tremor characteristics and body distribution. The patients were divided into two groups: familial (F) and non familial (NF).

Super‐Refractory Status Epilepticus (SRSE) in a Patient With Compound Heterozygous OPA1 Variants: Case Report and Literature Review

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Super‐Refractory Status Epilepticus (SRSE) is a rare, life‐threatening neurological emergency with unclear etiology in many cases. Mitochondrial dysfunction, often due to disease‐causing genetic variants, is increasingly recognized as a cause, with each gene producing distinct pathophysiological mechanisms.

Dystonia and Tremor: The Clinical Syndromes with Isolated Tremor

open access: yesTremor and Other Hyperkinetic Movements, 2016
Background: Dystonia and tremor share many commonalities. Isolated tremor is part of the phenomenological spectrum of isolated dystonia and of essential tremor.
