Use of community characteristics to predict hunting and game harvests in western Amazonian forests

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 39, Issue 4, August 2025.
Abstract Wild game harvesting in Amazonia provides rural residents with protein and cash income but can threaten wildlife populations and forest ecosystem functions. As yet, the socioeconomic and environmental drivers that shape hunter livelihoods remain poorly understood.

From whole bodies to single cells: A guide to transcriptomic approaches for ecology and evolutionary biology

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, Volume 34, Issue 15, August 2025.
Abstract RNA sequencing (RNAseq) methodology has experienced a burst of technological developments in the last decade, which has opened up opportunities for studying the mechanisms of adaptation to environmental factors at both the organismal and cellular level. Selecting the most suitable experimental approach for specific research questions and model

A methodology for incident detection in sectorized water distribution networks based on pressure and flow data

open access: yesComputer-Aided Civil and Infrastructure Engineering, Volume 40, Issue 20, Page 3013-3032, 18 August 2025.
Abstract This study presents an intelligent system for predicting incident reports (IRs) in sectorized water distribution networks, such as drains in sidewalks, lack of pressure, lack of water, leaks, or others, based on pressure and flow data. Currently, incident detection in the industry is highly inefficient, as it is always performed reactively ...

Socioeconomic determinants of overweight and obesity among Mexican children and adolescents: Systematic review and meta‐analysis

open access: yesObesity Reviews, Volume 26, Issue 8, August 2025.
Summary Socioeconomic status (SES) has widely been studied as a potential risk factor for obesity among children and adolescents. Nevertheless, SES determinants are rarely contextualized within a country's situation. This work aimed to identify SES factors associated with childhood and adolescent obesity in Mexico.

Prolonged postnatal adaptation and enhanced prevalence of congenital heart diseases due to altitude may contribute to newborn mortality in Bolivia

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, Volume 110, Issue 8, Page 1060-1070, 1 August 2025.
Abstract Highland populations suffer from significant infant mortality due to chronic ambient hypoxia, which increases the risk of congenital heart disease (CHD) and neonatal pulmonary hypertension. Neither the prevalence of these conditions nor the effectiveness of neonatal cardiac screening to identify CHD or pulmonary hypertension among neonates ...

Assessment of the 2023 post‐market environmental monitoring report on the cultivation of genetically modified maize MON 810 in the EU

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 23, Issue 8, August 2025.
Abstract At the request of the European Commission, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) assessed the 2023 post‐market environmental monitoring (PMEM) report on the cultivation of the genetically modified maize event MON 810, which expresses the Cry1Ab protein. The report provides no evidence of adverse effects from maize MON 810 cultivation.
