Quantifying leaf herbivory: A guide to methodological trade‐offs and best practices

open access: yesEcology, Volume 107, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract Leaf herbivory is a ubiquitous ecological interaction that varies significantly in intensity across species, habitats, and biogeographic regions. Although quantification of leaf damage is crucial for understanding many ecological processes, the accuracy and precision of various damage estimation methods used by researchers, including visual ...

Acute Toxicity and Genotoxicity of cMoL, a Lectin From Moringa oleifera Seeds With Antifungal Activity Against Cryptococcus Strains

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, Volume 46, Issue 2, Page 682-696, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Coagulant Moringa oleifera lectin (cMoL) is one of the compounds involved in the application of M. oleifera seeds for traditional water treatment methods. The present study highlights the new biotechnological potential of cMoL lectin as an antifungal agent against Cryptococcus neoformans B3501 and H99 and Cryptococcus gattii R265 strains ...

A new species from an inselberg in the Brazilian Atlantic forest: Stachytarpheta forzzae (Verbenaceae), supported by morphological, palynological and anatomical evidence

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, Volume 2026, Issue 2, February 2026.
We describe Stachytarpheta forzzae, a new species from an inselberg located in the municipality of Guaratinga, state of Bahia, within the Brazilian Atlantic forest. Morphologically, it resembles S. sprucei, the only other species of the genus known to inhabit inselbergs.

The role of tropical forest fragment vegetation in maintaining arthropod diversity and spillover to adjacent sugarcane fields O papel da vegetação de fragmentos de floresta tropical na manutenção da diversidade de artrópodes e na sua disseminação para campos de cana‐de‐açúcar adjacentes

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, Volume 28, Issue 1, Page 82-93, February 2026.
Tree diversity increases arthropod richness and the abundance of beneficial arthropod groups within Atlantic Forest fragments. Higher insect richness in forest fragments is associated with greater richness in adjacent sugarcane fields, and both habitats share insect families, suggesting spillover.

Pollination and plant reproduction in the Cerrado, the world's most biodiverse savanna

open access: yesBiological Reviews, Volume 101, Issue 1, Page 74-105, February 2026.
ABSTRACT The Brazilian Cerrado is a continental‐wide biodiversity hotspot and the most species‐rich savanna ecosystem in the world. The main aspect characterising this biodiversity is that the landscape is arranged as an intricate mosaic of different plant formations, including grasslands, savannas, and forests, each harbouring distinct but ...

Vulnerability of marine megafauna to global at‐sea anthropogenic threats

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 40, Issue 1, February 2026.
Abstract Marine megafauna species are affected by a wide range of anthropogenic threats. To evaluate the risk of such threats, species’ vulnerability to each threat must first be determined. We build on the existing threats classification scheme and ranking system of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened ...
